hey guys,
just wondering if someone can give me some advice. driving home tonight i noticed an irregularity with my GB.
occasionally when in nuetral, it felt as if something was blocking the the mechanisms from going into gear.
when i got home i left the car idling and tried to move the stick around and a few times in first gear it 'got stuck' in gear.
it felt as if something was locking it in place. its only just arisen and seems to be on and off. it popped out after some gentle persuasion, and felt normal then got stuck again, very on and off
any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
tim

Check what you can outside of the gearbox, eg make sure nothing is blocking the shifter and also make sure there is nothing in the engine by holding back the connection to the GB.

hows your clutch fluid level??

yes, and it is low... however there doesnt seem to be a leak, or does it lower due to braking compression?
good call, i didnt think of that, its the same as brake fluid isnt it? jst double checking lol.
my first thoughts were that it would be a synchro issue, could this be the case also?

if your clutch fluid is low enough, you may have air in the line. Top up your fluid and bleed the clutch.
If this doesnt fix it, check your clutch free travel. You might not be getting enough travel on the clutch to diengage it properly.

Check fluid level.
**Check for air in the hydraulics - most likely.
Could be defective synchroniser rings in gearbox.
Could be warped clutch plate.
Low oil level.

well.. after an interesting day, i have lost 1st and 3rd.. they deteriorated VERY quickly, 1st feels like its blocked by a stone wall, i either cant get in gear, or cant get out..
3rd feels like im pushing the stick through sponge cake... there are some metallic noises from the stick when i change gears.
no other such issues are found in 2nd 4th or 5th. i dont tihnk this is clutch fluid... checked and topped up the system with no avail..
im feeling internal issues?

try pumping the clutch pedal to get it in gear. if this works it is probably the master cylinder seals failing. check under the dash where the clutch master cylinder pushrod goes through the firewall. if there is fluid present then the master cylinder seals are stuffed.

When the manual went into my car it wouldn't shift into any gear unless the car was off the ground (i know not your problem). Ended up being the clutch master and slave cylinder seals. New seals fixed the issue.
In your case it could also be the gear selectors inside the gearbox. Do you rest your hand/palm against the gear knob when in 1st or 3rd? Good way to wear out the gear selectors.

i know it isnt master or slave cylinder as they are new. clutch is new, and fluid is fine and operating normally.
pumping the clutch does nothing, neither does match revving (still using clutch).
im very much leaning towards internal selector or syncho problems due to the current feel and sound of the box..
MOHIT: no i dont rest my hand on the gear stick, ive been gentle on the gears as of late but im so surprised at how quickly its deteriorating

ok found the post
pm sent
it may be the shift cable needs adjusting or the bushes in the shift section are worn or broken or the cable is sticking
you have two cables working the shifts one has an adjustment
how old is the oil in the box ?
check for a broken engine mount
bring it over and we can have a look at it
PM me for a time that suits you
