Its that time. We've had our laughs and our tears, but it seems it's finally time to sell my beloved 2nd gen.

I'll be prepping her for sale in the next few weeks, things i was going to do were an auto service, general service to make sure its roadworthy and fix up a few odds and ends like oil and brakes, and a good cut 'n polish to fix the paintwork up a bit. I'm hoping for $2,000-2,500 for her, keeping in mind it has a full 12 months rego, 161,000kms, new tyres, has had the head rebuilt 6 months ago, still runs well, and has never had an accident.

I was just posting to see if anyone had sold theirs recently and what the going rate is? Typically what the asking rate is on car sales isnt the same as what they eventually get sold for. I'll be upgrading to a 2006 BF Falcon for those of you who are interested, i'll still be around the forums though :)

Thoughts?

Honestly your better off selling AS IS. Reason is even if you make it roadworthy, EFI 2nd gens and even V6's are a dime a dozen, it's gotta be a pretty special GLX carby to get $2000-$2500. I would just sell as is and let someone else worry about the hassles. You can pick up a KR ei for $2500 so yeah...

I sold my 3rd Gen KJ Rada today which is immaculate (not saying your 2nd Gen isn't), and all i got for it is $7k. Magnas are worth nothing nowadays. Maybe in your case it might be better off trading it in if you can get a bit for it. Hope you get as much as possible but yeh selling cars nowadays is not what it used to be a couple of years ago.

i payed 2.3 for my 4cyl carbs a year ago.

i didnt know much about them and probably wouldnt have payed that much knowing it was the low of the low models, and the amount of leaks i had to fix.
im gonna say unless its pretty well modified to the right un-knowing guy, 2k if its immaculate

if you can pull it off, try selling it to school kids just getting their licences.

not that either, because its only going to get worse
what you pay 2grand for now, might be sold for 500 in a few years.

Look...at the end of the day, the Magna/Verada is still great value for your money. Idiots still asking 5k for a freekin' VS acclaim.....Richard freekin' Craniums!

I got $600.00 for trade in at Toyota (car was on 300,000), pulled the rims off and sold them separate for $350 (3rd gen stock) so you would try and push to $1.5k max = if you have rims sell separate

Theirs no point in spending fresh money if your not going to make it back, its always sad see'ing your car go, especially if its your first and have been through a lot together lol

You lot are focussing on your Magna resale values, sure they are less than other brands but at the moment its near impossible to sell ANY car and all resale values are way down. You don't get much for an equivilent (in age) Commodore either

That is a good point, however have a look at 2003 magnas verse toyota, ford and holden. Magnas are way cheaper. Ive been looking for weeks and almost went a TL/TW, i just cant bear the front end. Its definitely all cars that are down on resale, such is the economic climate we live in, and the price of petrol drives v6 cars to be worth less.

I paid $2,500 for a 6/93 Injected Auto with air, the other day, 168,000 kms, and July rego. It'd be a shame if you had to sell for a stupidly low price.

I am going to say $1000

i bought my 91 verada for $3200 in 07, that was with a few problems but the outside was great and the engine only had 192***kms. If i sold her now i be lucky to get $2500. I wont be selling her anytime soon, only when it gets written off *touches wood*

then i be going for a 3rd gen or 380

but good luck on selling the car and hope you get a decent price for it, man.

cheers

True, but Magna's are just worse, poor re-sale value - no wonder why you can get 2000+ models so cheap - compare it to a toyota or honda from the same year and they are more expensive.

Its the truth

So i put a deposit down on a BF Falcon this morning, 120,000kms on the clock, its the SR pack so it has a spoiler and 15" alloys. Paid $12,500 for those of you who are interested, which is a cracker of a deal for what i got, believe you me lol
3 years warranty, RWC, new tyres and brakes and full log books too, i couldnt believe my eyes! The guys had it marked as an XT rather than an SR - obviously have no idea..

So i may or may not put the 2nd gen up in the for sale section as an EOI, offer it to members first before i flog her off. Got offered trade in at a decent price today too but am not wholly convinced.
Ill put some pics up of the new beast when i take delivery, even if you arent interested :P
