Would be hard to be for the price, go for it. Is box included?

i payed 150 for mine
extremely happy, so you will be too
these things put out real great bass for the price.
I run 2 of these off an old Alpine V-Power and they pump pretty hard. Paid $500 for the amp, 2 subs, new box and all wiring (incl power) around 3 years ago
Only thing to note is the Alpine gear is somewhat "boomier" than other brands, so good for rap / hip hop / whatever, but IMO not so great for rock / metal, or anything that has a lot of resonating low frequency work.

yeah i thought about the fact it won't be as punchy as smaller subs but i figure i have sub control on the headunit so i can turn it down when i listen to stuff it doesn't need...
btw it's a used sub, comes with no box or anything... thats why i was asking, because i can't find RRP for these anywhere...
If its the same as the current series of Type-S RRP will be around $219.

is that rrp what you'd actually pay at a store? or is it just an inflated manufacturers price?

inflated manufacturers price is my guess

mmm doesn't seem like such a good deal now...

RRP is always Manufacturers price. Stores don't set RRP. You'd pay a bit less for the sub at JB or somewhere. Probably more around the $180 mark. $120 for a used one in box would be decent value.

no box either... do you know of any places which would the stock the type s sub? might give them a call, see how low they'll go
EDIT; just read your post properly, i assume JB order from a catalogue? ill have to go have a chat with them

ill have to shop around. has anyone had any experience with the jaycar active sub? comes in it's own ported box with an amp, looks pretty tidy, but haven't heard anything about it.
My other half bought a full setup for her Laser the other weekend (6.5" x 4, amps x2, USB MP3 headunit & wiring for $700). I think the sub, box and amp (Kicker 12" 'Kick pack') was only around $230 all up from JB Hifi. I'm pretty sure you can get subs in boxes for around $150 for Sony, maybe closer to $200 for something a little better like Cadence or Kicker, with a single 12" Alpine maybe setting you back $220, again all in a box

i had a customer come thru the workshop with one of the jaycar compact all in one subs in her hatch.... not bad in a hatch but it'd be struggling in a magna sedan
CS2271 would probably pump tho

Hmm, so your thinking of getting a sub hey? I might have to look into one too then, seeing as we have pretty much bought the same equipment over the past few weeks I might as well keep it consistent.
Also, did you end up sound deadening your car with the jaycar mat stuff? How did it go cus I might do it if you think it is worth it or made any difference.
P.S I should finally have everything hooked up this arvo, it has been annoying me so much over the past few weeks knowing that my front speakers are just sitting there waiting to be listened to.
EDIT: if we got one of these active subs, Is all we would have to do it pass through the rca signal to the sub and connect up power, remote etc?
Cheers.

i got it all done in a weekend with my step-dad, pretty happy about that!
yeah and with the sub, i figured i might as well, but i think im just gonna get some ****e ones haha... i want to buy a complete package, amp sub and box altogether, can't be screwed buying separately... (btw im cheap :P)
and no i didnt really do much sound deadening, i basically put a couple of pieces of the jaycar stuff behind my two front speakers... no idea if it did anything... i'd rather one day spend a few hundred dollars on dynamat and just go crazy...
with the active subs, im pretty sure its all hooked up internally, so we just need to connect it straight to the headunit! oh and of course another cable straight to the battery for power... im liking the look of the jaycar active sub, think it'd look nice in my car :D
thinking about buying this piece of crap instead though :P

Yeah, each time I go to connect my amp up to the speakers it gets too dark and I just tell myself I will do it the next day, this has been going on for ages but I think i will finally get time this arvo to do it.
I'm guessing there isn't a whole lot difference between really expensive subs and cheap ones (for general population like me) so if I get a sub I will go cheap too. I saw a 2x12" sub package (came in a nice green box, amp etc) at WOW sight and sound. They were linkman ones so cheapo but only cost like $100 or so and looked awesome. I might have a look at those again. Still concerned about my boot space so would probably only want 1x12" but I will see.
If you go to WOW or somewhere ask for it cheaper, most times you will get it cheaper. I bought a fusion 4 guage wiring kit from WOW that was priced at $100, I told them I saw it online for $59, so they priced matched and I got it for $59. No shipping or anything so I ended up getting it cheaper then online

haha that rules, do they have any of these shops in SA? never seen one, from memory... EDIT: nope only in eastern states, id assume it's the same as JB though
and yeah, for me the sub is just about "BOOM", not about clarity... i know someone will probably blast me for this :P but at this point in time i'd just like to add that drone...
actually, the 6.5s and 6x9s have a hell of a lot of clarity AND boom, i was really surprised... that's why i want to go on the cheap for a sub atm, because i dont reaaaaaaaaally need one... the only way to justify one would be price :P

lol depends on the car amps and the general setup also, As where not all rich i'd say buy a good unit with good speakers and add the sub later
i got an $80 dollar 12 inch special for my old car and sold a month later sounder worse! I know have a rockford 12 inch punch and its nice and tight with good punch sorry about the pun!

twlvlksjstlky - for the average user, a 12" Type S in a good solid right size box, will give you all you need. You can add 100wrms to the rated wattage, ive had 2 of these subs before and wasnt dissapointed. One I paid $150 for a prefab Beva box with the sub so a lone sub $120 isnt bad.
How much power do you have to feed it?
I like my bass real hard and deep and in my TH sports sedan I had a Type R with a nominal 300wrms input, paid about $250 with box, I was feeding it close to 700wrms and this sub sang like a biatch.... Compared to a Xtant 12" woofer(very highly rated very pricey sub) that I paid over $500 for the Alpine hit harder and was a lot cleaner and less boomy.
If you want something that just goes boom and makes as much noise as possible, buy a 15" and put it in a good tight sealed enclosure made to manufacturers specs.
Dont listen to sayings of a bigger sub makes a boomier sloppy sound. I heard a focal 18" sub in a sealed box and it was like 6 10" subs.
Best thing I can recommend is ask the guy who is selling it if you can hook it up and audition it, no better recommendations like you own ears.....
But IMHO bang for buck, put it in a decent MDF air tight sealed enclosure and feed it 300-400wrms a Alpine 12" Type S will not dissapoint you. And in a wagon you will hear it better than in a sedan, face it towards the rear hatch so you get the benefit of "rear loading".

Luke
My 2x 12" Type S Alpines will be going in Saturday if you wanna hear what they sound like in a wagon? I can always D/C one if you wanna hear what 1 sounds like too. What part of ADL are you in?
Also, don't let people tell you that you need to spend big money to get good audio, purists will *always* have a dig at something you're doing, but for 99.9% of the world a complete setup that sounds great is quite cheap.
As I said in an earlier post my other half got 4 speakers, 2 amps, a sub in a box, all wiring and a USB / MP3 headunit for $700 and it sounds fantastic. Flip side of that I have a friend who's spent $700 on his sub alone, and to me it doesn't sound any better. It all comes down to being happy with a nice sounding system that's never going to be in an SPL or DB competition, and if you are you'll come away without a murdered wallet :)

thanks both of you guys for the responses... i'm thinking i might have to go check these subs out before I buy, probably the best thing to do to make sure they're what i want
oh and dave im in brighton, i'd be keen to have a listen if you're not too far away? also i said it in your other topic but its nice to have another wagon in SA :D
