Hey i have seen there are a few people out there who own the 1st Gen's and have problems with the fuel gauge. when i fill mine up it only says 3/4 full. Does anyone know how to fix this. Is it in the gauge itself or the float unit in the tank??

Hopefully its easy to fix. I have this problem and my dad drives the Elite with digital gauge and his does it too.

my analogue gauge did the same, then it stopped working all 2gether. then i put the digital dash in and the new analogue sender unit i got doesn't work with the digital gauge.

PS. any1 got a elite sender unit they can send me???

me and mad lante both have had fuel gauge problems. mad lante fixed his by buying a new fuel sender unit which fixed his guage. I tryed a new fuel sender unit but it didnt seem to help me at all.....(I have a few dash problems as my fuel and tacho dont work)

i think most cars on the road has smething worng with their fuel gauges ..... ie some stay "full" till half way empty n them drop all of a sudden n things like that, though i might is slower to go down for the tp half and gpes down quickly for the second.

i say just count your km'S its what i do

i brought a fuel sender today for my tp magna and it still has the same prob it will go to 3/4 when full i just plugged it in and pulled the float up to test it i paid 25 bucks for it but it does look pretty f*ked though the little spring which sends the info to the gauge is worn so im taking it back for a refund and i might go to mitsubitshi and buy a new one does anyone know the price on a new fuel sender unit

well as i said b4 mines not fully workin when theres a full tank it only read 3/4 and stays there till i ave 3/4 tank of petrol but least it works when im low on fuel as i found out one day my car wouldnt start and it was sitting right on the E, but i filled a bit up and it started

The best thing to do it short circuit the gauge but jackin the car up, taking the fuel sender unit out and hold it up agaist the metal (cos it needs to be grounded) and then push the float up and then get some one to turn the car on (dont start it just put it in the on position) and w8 and see if the needle moves, also while its out take notice to the coils that the float runs along if it looks worn out or broken if it is then ull need a new sender unit. But if u cant get the needle to move just make sure ur touching the body so the unit can be fully grounded and if it still doesnt work then its sum thing else.

For us that are in SA just pop down to mitsi bits and get one from them i payed $25 for mine and they also have a 3month warranty if the product doesnt work

Hope that helps :D

yer if the one u got has broken coils or there warn out take it back, but i would say that mitsubishi (if your lucky they have any in stock) would charge a bit for it for a new one ;)

My TM does that... it goes down slow from full to 1/2 tank, once it's past half - it goes down pretty quick

another thing i've noticed is that you could drive around for a good 2-3 hours and use enough fuel that would make the needle move - but it doesn't until you stop the engine (switch off ignition - the needle falls to zero) and switch it back on to find that the needle has moved quite a bit...

i've learnt to live with it's inaccuracy but it is still annoying sometimes

well it pisses me off.. i like things to work. if its there a want it workin.. hehehe

When i fill up it goes to 3/4 when it is totally it is way past "E"..
(i found out the hard way !!!!! at least the magnas r light and easy to push by ur self)

I just want to fix it. workin on the car yesterday makes me want to if the other few small prob's i have.. all stupid like the fuel gauge.

if its not the sender wot else could it be.. like the fuel gauge on the dash or a wiring issue???

Thanks

It more then likey to be ur dash, if not the wiring but see if its the sender cos its more likly to be that, Take it out and ull see if the coils are warnout or the slider doesnt move wit the float and the sliders not coming in contact wit the coils

My TM Elite has a different problem with the guage. It reads fine when its full, but when it gets to below halfway, the guage shows that it may be half full, then it goes down to a quater, then 1/3, then it says im totally empty, then i have 1/4, etc. It gets annoying coz I dont know when to fill up. This is a digital fuel guage btw.

Do u have to drain out the fuel talk to get the fuel sender unit out.???

Also wot side of car is it located ??

Also i want to fix it as i want to get the digital dash for the Elante.. The Elante would look sweet with a digital dash.

No you dont have to drain out the fuel but dont take it out while its compleatly full do it below 3/4.

All you have to do is jack the car up at the back, then get under and ull see the lump for the spare tire, now go further towards the middle the car underneath the back seat and thats where the tank is, now go to the end of the tank near the spare tire and ull notice 2 things the one on the RIGHT is the sender unit, the one on the left is the pump i think, just unplug it (the plugs on the outside) and unscrew it and take it out Simple :D

If u want to get a electronic dash then its pointless fixing it becuase they use a different fuel sender unit and ull have to get the sender unit for the electronic dash and put that in

what im thinking is its the voltage regulator behind the dash cause i tried 2 different sender units and they both read 3/4 when full so ive booked my car into the auto elctrician on friday and hopefully that will fix the problem and i will also get my tacho fixed and the clock keeps surging so hopefully that as well
