A 1997 KE Verada Xi that I am thinking about buying (see http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67400) has a strange problem with it's alarm and keyless entry system that I would like to try to figure out before I buy it. I'm 99% sure that the locking and alarm system is stock.

First, the keyless entry - I have two remotes (both identical), neither of them can unlock the doors or open the boot, but they can both lock the car. The red light on the remotes works when you push the unlock/boot button and both remotes show the same behavior so I don't think the remotes are faulty.

The alarm problem - if you open the drivers side door with the key, once every 3-4 times the alarm will go off. I am still able to start the car when this happens (so the immobiliser is not broken), but starting the car does not turn the alarm off (I'm not sure if it is supposed to). I have to go around to the passenger door and put the key in to turn the alarm off. Unlocking the car from the passenger side works fine every time.

I'm not sure if the two problems are related, but could anyone give me some advice on what might be wrong or how I could try to fix it? I've done some searching but I can't find any relevant information.

Thanks :)

could be a faulty drivers door switch/actuator

Would that cause the remotes to stop working and the alarm to go off randomly?

Is there any way to test the alarm or make it give me more information on why it is going off?

I'm in this poo boat too atm. I've dynamatted my doors and noticed that the driver's side only will set the alarm - which sux as I have air horns and live in a quiet street. Always happens late at night, early in the morning or when someone else has to travel with me in the car :doubt:

The key/lock doesn't seem 100% to me. Not always convinced that it's locking. Maybe fouling on the dynamat or board backing I put in.

I never worked out what the problem was (didn't end up buying the car), but at least with mine, you can unlock it without worry by doing it from the passenger door :)

disconnect each door one at a time and try it out..
boot switch can also set off the alarm... try disconnecting it.... happens quite a bit on alot of cars....

Might be it actually, as I'm in and out of the boot like an abductee.
