I just resprayed my bonnet, apron and grille with a clear over base acrylic-
I filled all the chips etc and sanded the filler back with 80 then 320 grade paper then sprayed the whole lot with auto one primer filler (the yellow stuff) and sanded it back with 320 dry. It was allowed to dry out for a week and a half.
I did the base coat then the clears, waited 24hrs then color sanded with 1200 grade, compounded and got an exellent result.
Two days later the sanding marks started showing through.
I can resand with1200, compound then get the same result again but before I do I was wondering if I'm doing something wrong?
This is driving me nuts- anyone know how to stop this happening?

what do you mean the sanding marks are showing through??? like you can see swirl marks under the clear or is the clear seperating??? did you clean it with wax and grease remover before each coat?

Yeah did all the prep-
It looks like the filler and or the top coats have sunk into the sanding marks they were filling!
I did the filling on a cool day so there shouldn't have been any bridging but it looks like everything has shrunk into what it was suppose to fill!
I can sand the top coats smooth and cut them again and it's gone but I'm not sure why it happened in the first place!

sorry but 320 is fairly course still to sand a primer (dunno if you thinned to high build).. i would have gone 600-800 (depending if you were using the primer as high build to cover maplines or minor low spots)..

the blocking with the primer should have covered all the sanding marks from the filler.. if not, cut it right back to square one, reprime it, but use a good high build and block it with 6-800 wet..

then your base, and whilst the base is drying (within 20 mins) your clear, assuming 2k clear?

cheers,

Thanks mate-
The 320 was used dry and was very smooth- the filler (bog) was sanded with 80 grade then 320 and it's these sanding marks showing through.
I was told yesterday that it might be that I'm applying to much topcoat too thick and the thinner is causing everything to sink or that I'm polishing (Waxing)too soon after painting and that the paint (acrylic-base and clear) should be left for about a month to cure before cutting?

320 dry is ok, but for knocking the head off, you should have used 600 wet after. Dont worry about re-priming, let it cure(acylic never fully cures)i'd let it go for a couple of weeks, use 800 on a colour sanding block, rub it right back, and repaint.

yeah prolly should've used a wet 800 after priming, pretty sure the painters at work do that.

What brand product do the experts recommend that the average joe can get hold of? I've got a front bar, rear bar, inserts, skirts, boot, bonnet and turret to do. :coffee:
