well im going to dewing my car. and as my rear is smashed, i need a new rear window.
so 'life' suggested installing a highmount stoplight, that was on the TH and up series.
how do i go about installing one of these????
do i need to get a specific model part or do i need a TH rear window???
i have never seen these close up before

get a th rear window installed and from what i remember the tabs the high mount light attach to are on the window so you just need to slide the light on and wire up. i stuck my tabs on after measuring the window to make it even, and stuck them on with stikaflex. worked great.

I have a TH and dont have a window brake light... is that because i have the spoiler? Do you need 3 lights?

i dont want one on the parcel shelf, as i like the flat look. and a high mount would be away from the window tint.

yeah, if the car came with a factory spoiler, there is no high mount.
te/tf had them in a hump on the rear parcell shelf.

I recently put a "grandpa wing" on the rear window of my cars (its the acrylic magna Sports rear sunshade), and on my KJ I worried that the external sunshade may limit visibility of my high-mount stop-lamp (this is the very sleek/flush, black-covered jobby that goes at top of rear window near headlining).
Off to Sydney wreckers I went, and think it was only $15- from Pick-n-Pull at Seven Hills (recommended by MagnaForce, thanks for the tip, Craig!)..... this was for an additional "sleek" high mount stop lamp unit, the two window clips, and as much loom as I could easily get out. I have a plan to mount this as a second 'high mount' lamp, somewhere else in frear window not obscured by the rear sunshade.
At the moment, I pulled the LED unit out of the black cover, turned it upside-down and have chucked it on the rear parcel shelf - where (horror of horrors) the slope of the window glass is so extreme that even this very low-profile lamp doesn't sit anywhere near the back edge of parcel shelf.
I'm sure all who have changed rear 6x9 speakers will appreciate the complete lack of room at rear edge of parcel shelf. Over the next couple of days I'll investigate more - try to work out if trimming the lamp enclosure would work better, or if possible to mount the LEDs at sides of back window etc. Whichever way I do it, I want it to be as unobtrusive and "OEM" looking as I can get it to be.
Meantime, I saw an AutoBarn (at Orange NSW on Sat last) who stocked a self-stick "Narva" led lamp unit - designed to adhere straight onto glass, about 25-30cm wide for about $25-00....... it was a bit butt-ugly, but may have been an easier option and was much cheaper than I expected. I'm gonna persevere with the wrecker parts, but just mention this after-market thing in case it sounds useful to others.

Another option to consider would be the LED strips which are sold on E-Bay - various sorts available, but they def have them in Red LEDs and a variety of lengths, often with self-stick adhesive backings included.
I have seen one type where the LEDs seem to be set in a dark-tinted plastic (bendy) extrusion, with a slightly bowed upper profile. Tucking that at base of windscreen might be the most "stealth" option. Lights would be at base of rear window, just above boot lid - should be quite acceptable for RTA/VicRoads etc, block no rear vision at all.

man if u want the one like on my car which is on the parcel shelf, you need it off a TE/F
if u want a high mount one at the top of the windscreen like I showed u on adams car, then u need one off a TH/J

ahh yeah thats the one annese thanks yeah either or see what the wreckers think,
thing with the TE/F parcel shelf would be maching color but cant amagine that beeing to hard
Ok, time for a straight answer!
Brent, first of all you need to source and install a TH rear windscreen with highmount cutout (off a TH exec). Once you have it installed, the highmount has 2 tabs that are glued to the window, the assy just slides on/off this, you will also want the harness, take off the roof liner and follow it back.
It is a fairly simple installation, just ensure you can find a suitable glue to hold it in place.

Muzzi,
Try searching Flea-bay for a LED strip-light, which is a kind-of dark-tinted strip, LED's are moulded inside the strip.... its sold from within Australia (sorry, don't remember the e-bay seller/shop name). t's self-stick on back of the strip too - as long as you could get it positioned evenly, and stuck so LED's face out the window (rather than dazzle you in the rear-view mirror), I reckon it'd be awesome option.
I haven't tried these, but reckon if you tucked this down near the glass at rear of the parcel shelf would be a fairly stealth install. If my mucking about with extra "slimline" high-mount lamp unit doesn't seem to kick any goals, I am tempted to get me some of this LED strip.

Just putting it out there:
I recon a flush mount brake light at the top of the boot lid (Like the 380s') would be pretty cool if anyone is brave enough to hack into their boot lid!

i thought of doing something like this with my garnish... using the LED thing in my wing, and putting it in my garnish somehow when i dewing my car... was just a thought but i really like the idea...
