Hey, does anyone know how... dont say manual conversion... does anyone know how I can get my automatic 4cyl TS to stay in first gear?
Thanks
Get the automatic gear selector, take it all the way down the bottom (to 1) and leave it there, viola.
Im no auto driver, but thats how i believe it works.

I'm fairly sure the engine will eventually change up, yes?
Certainly, it won't change *down* in to first over 50 .. maybe when going from 0 it'l just hit the rev limiter but I hadn't felt the need to try it...

Ah ok .. thought that might be the case .. but it definitely won't change down even if you ask it too.
And once you hit 2nd there's a bit of a delay so you gotta pay attention to timing if you're trying to manually shift it all the way out to redline without hitting the limiter. (same in 3rd gens)

Nah it wont change down unless your below a certain speed think it was 35kays or something.
Why you would WANT to keep a 4cyl auto in 1st that long is beyond me though.

Unless your plates are HRD2GT, or your trying to impersonate that person with an unmarked car behind you :bowrofl:
Nah I actually use L and 2 all the time in my car, sometimes it helps, L helps around big round-a-bouts as once the 3rd gen 4sps hit 2nd at a low speed your epically slow which isn't really handy at some of the round-a-bouts around my area where you need to get out of the way before you get collected, right of way or not, and 2nd is good in the twisties to stop it hunting between 2nd and 3rd :D

Nah it's 50, at that point it'l even kick down if you put your foot down.

OK, at least it is in my 1994 TS 4cyl .. sure it might be different for others .. the redlining comment was talking specifically about a 3rd gen v6 TF but I'm pretty sure most would operate the same way.

very easy make
1. remove gearbox
2. remove 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear from the gearbox
3. reinstall gearbox
4. enjoy your one gear gearbox :)
seriously tho, is there a reason for wanting to leave the car in 1st? do you have a cannon exhaust?

Wow, that all sounds easier (maybe not the: remove all gears but the 1st idea) than my idea of getting it running in 1st and draining the transmission fluid so it cant change :P
Thanks
(no, no cannon exhaust, just wondering is all)

why in gods name would you starve your transmission?!!!! I can tell you now that although it would not stay in first but would simply rev out due to fluid starvation...

It is very easy, hold the shifter in first so all your mates can see that you have a fully sik car like they have
Another way is to make pointless theads like this one as you will have much more time to practice in your car ?
