View Full Version : TJ missing on low revs in petrol mode

Hi everyone i have a problem with my fuel injection. OK my car is a TJ dual fuel (LPG & petrol), after market conversion.

Problem is when i run on petrol & doing about 100 in 4th gear it starts missing, can feel loss of power & the whole car is starting to shake, after i put my foot on accelerator it accelerates normally, so at the moment it only happens in low revs in high gear. By the way it drives fine on LPG without any decrease in fuel efficiency.

I have changed my fuel filter, O2 sensor short time ago, throttle body was also cleaned, i doubt its spark plugs since it drives fine on LPG which is much more demanding on spark plugs then petrol. I ALWAYS filled up with 98 RON ever since i bough my car brand new. I highly doubt its fuel injectors, since i have always driven on 98 RON, now i even put in quarter of a tank of 98 & a full bottle of injector cleaner, made no difference whatsoever.

Im suspecting MAF sensor is dying. I have K&M panel filter, did anyone have any problems with oil from it damaging or interfering with MAF.

Has anyone tried cleaning it or is it even possible to clean it, if yes how & what to use? Does it have a life span, my car has done 230,000 all by me.

MAF being an ultra sonic device in a Magna isn't exactly cheap, so before i commit at least $250 to change it i would like to know if anyone had similar problem & managed to get it fixed.

was this before or after your problem started?

I have changed O2 a while back no problem after it was done. When this problem first started i tried changing fuel filer & clean TB but no result.

Just a thought.

I had s surging issue (different issue to yours) in my KJ. Thought MAF was on its way out.
Swapped one with no difference.
Mad magna said we should first of all look at dizzy rotor and cap.
We did and they were rooted. The rotor was burnt(wear and tear) and my KJ only has 130,000 on it. Gas speeds up the wear rate as it puts more demand on the ignition system.
New rotor and cap at $100 and car is like new again.

Thanks for the info FW. Did you use a factory rotor and cap?

Nah, after market. Maybe ask Mal which he uses. Its a bit of a pain getting to the dizzy but you will be able to see if the rotor is burnt at the end.
If it all looks ok then dont bother but if it looks a little burnt then replace it. The rotor was only like 20 odd dollars.
The cap didn't seem to be effected as much.

Cheers FamilyWagon,

I was informed to go with Bosch if not going with factory components.
