Now that I have your attention...

I have a 2003 TJ sedan with quite a few km's on her.

Lately ive had a terrible vibration in the front of the car when going up hills under acceleration (mostly), sometimes just under heavy acceleration going around corners on freeway (at 90km/h +).

I've taken it to a few places such as Jax in the hope it would be a balance issue, but after having the tyres all balanced 4 times now I think its probably something else.

Anyone had a similar problem? Im not sure if the front suspension has ever been replaced and we're well over 300,000km so perhaps its time for a replacement. What should I be looking at replacing and what kind of costs have you guys had with this. Keeping in mind I dont want anything custom, just factory-type replacement.

Im pulling my hair out as my Magna is starting to (for the first time) disappoint me.

Been a few threads about this vibration, some were the engine mounts were had it, others the struts or strut tops. Someone will pop in soon and say for sure, though a search might turn those threads up for ya to look at.

I would be tending more towards drive shafts if this is a high mileage car

Also lower bushes can be an issue

could be a buggered engine mount, allowing too much movement under hard accelleration. Could also be worn out cv joints.
Don't lose faith in the car. At that mileage things do wear out.

out of round rims, unbalanced drive shafts..... could try an on vehicle balance.... doesnt fix the problem but corrects the symptoms in most cases

I was thinking the same, stuffed CV's will cause bad vibrations yes?

Surely do,seems to happen a fair bit to Magnas from what you hear/read,my brothers TH magna would vibrate like bitch in exactly the same situations, and after changing tyres, balancing etc as recommeded by a mechanic,we took it to a suspension specialist and it was the driveshafts

mine has a fairly deep vibration noise, borderline grinding noise on low rpm on takeoff and up hill. Its a weak gearbox mount on mine... Seems to be only when the engine is making excess power for the speed its moving (for example, the extra throttle needed to get up a steep incline). Not much of a problem for me. but most workshops will check it out for free in the hope you'll book it in with them.

I have a very similar problem with my TE V6 auto, done 260,000klms.
It happens from start off, i get a shudder / vibration as it peaks each gear, goes away once im cruising, and a few times now get the freeway 90klm thing, to a point the whole car is vibrating, like the wheels are out of balance, and have now found the only way to stop it is to pull over, drive off and its all good.

This is what has been done, and sent me broke in doing so.....

the engine and gearbox mounts checked, all good.....

auto tranny serviced, car was at 2 auto transmission shops, and they both said definatley not the gearbox.....

they sent me to Bob Jane, checked all rims, all good, replaced all tyres incase they were out of round....

They said cv's, so had cv's / drivshaft replaced, they also checked shocks, said they were ok, but im not so sure....

They said fuel injectors, so had the fuel injectors cleaned.....

Yep, still doing it.... other than that, drives like new.

Anyone got any further suggestions, Cheers

as already stated check the drive shafts they can give a vibration like you have a flat spot on a tyre.

Ummm, how the hell are you going to balance a drive shaft??????????????????

Wheels out of balance can cause issues but not just under acceleration.

The grease in the shafts goes off, the inner DOJ joint will also tend to lose grease after time as the rubber boot goes hard and the seal lets go, I have seen many a magna with a trail of grease up the sump and on the cross member and the boot appears to be perfect.

Magna's and many cars of this age are known for this and often a new pair of shafts fixes all.

Mounts, if the drivers side mount has collapsed it can be an issue, remember the L & R mounts only hold up the engine and the F & R mounts are anti roll. If the RH mount is gone, it will load up the roll mounts and can cause vibration.

Have had cv's shafts replaced twice within last month, second time for warranty, someone said the tripod ? was stuffed in the first rh shaft, they werent too sure, but replaced them, but still have the same problem, now someone is saying faulty fuel injector, i seem to be chasing my tail and spending alot of $, but not solving the problem, any ideas guys
