so today installed all my new audio, MB quart front and rear, JDM alpine DD deck, heaps of dynamat, stinger pro rca leads, kicker 4 ch amp, 4awg wiring, stinger 16 awg wiring, orion subs and a nakamichi mono block.
now i got it all in and went to test it out, it sounded excellent but there was no bass. i then went and checked out the wiring to the mono block and found that the rca leads were getting real hot.
now i have checked all my wiring and grounding points and the rca are still getting hot (only the rca's to the mono block) and no bass. i cant understand why and its no cheap $300 pioneer amp, its top of the line nakamichi $1000 mono block.
so dose anyone know why this is happening. thanks in advance

Is the whole lead getting hot or just near the amp. Is it hot near the H/U?
Has the H/U successfully ran a sub before?

Sounds like something is shorting out and then earthing over the sub RCA's... Amp could be DOA?

+1 here.
Take it back to your retailer and show them, disconnect power in the meantime. ( hopes it wasn't bought online )

Yep... I burnt out a VGA cable because previous owner left a 12V+ wire uninsulated.

wait, you've gone all out on this audio gear yet your only using 4ga power wire?
would atleast have 0ga
as for your RCA problem, have you tried another RCA cable?
as said it might be a faulty amp

4ga will be fine. The mono is nice and efficient so wouldn't need a lot of power to drive it at full power. Mainly depends on the length of cable he uses.

ok worked it out, the amp is cooked and i am f$#%%n pissed of about it, and i cant return it because iv had it for a year as it was left over from the old system. so now i will look for another mono block. thanks for the help
Danny,
Before you throw out a 1K amp and look for another 1K amp.....
Have you thought about getting it repaired? It could be a simple fix like the RCA inputs/tracks. May cost you $200-$300, but a lot cheaper than a new amp, plus you get to keep your nice amp :)

yeah ill try n get it fixed. went and saw a mate at GT autosound and he told me where to take it but that parts may be hard to find. i had a look in the amp and there's 3 shorts on the things that come off the board and clamp down on to the heat sink so i could be a pricey fix.
Fair enough - I'de have it checked first, throwing away a cheap amp/sub is no big deal. When you start throwing out good quality equipment it becomes pricey to replace.

They are called (IIRC) power transistors. There should be id numbers on them - you should be able to look these up or find equivalent transistors and have them replaced. As it is an expensive amp I'm surprised there isn't some overload protection - are there any smaller components on the board that are cooked?

nope there is no other components that are cooked. it dose have overload protection but for some reason it didn't trigger. ill take it in 2moro n see if it can be fixed.

4 gauge is rated to 135 amps, if he's drawing that much then the cable size is the least of his worries.
