Hello
I want to install my type R system to my car but keep factory unit and run it that.
Whats the cheapest and easiest way to do this.
I know about Alpines Vechicle Hub Pro and such but im wondering if there is another way.

Would it be better to get a HU and install it into the arm rest instead?

Buy an amp with high imputs in or you can purchase a high - low converter from jaycar electronics. This will convert your speaker out wires from your head unit to rca outs. This is the best option $$$$$ wise.

I'd say just get the stereo bezel from a stock 380. This will give you a double din hole which you can install standard unit into and a pocket below to fill the hole.
Also there is no aux on these units. The American Galant has an ipod dock or something but not ours.

I thought I read somewhere that there was an Aux input mode in the 380. I'm counting on that when I do my dvd install.

There is a Galant IPOD adapter that fits into the back of our stock stereos - plug-n-play - but theyre not cheap.
I hope this is allowed:

Looking at about $260 + about 20 minutes to install.
I wish I knew about them 5 days ago, I wouldnt have bought the FM transmitter and got one of these instead.

It can't be that much for a auxiliary input cable can it? I'm assuming that cable gives full Ipod integration and control, which would be handy if I wanted to use my Ipod in the car, but all I will need is a simple auxiliary cable to allow sound from a DVD player to play through the system.

I havent run amp cable but I can tell you the supercharger loom runs through a rubber gromet in the front passenger foot well into the inner guard & comes out just in front of the fusebox under the bonnet behind the ECU.
This can be accessed by jacking the car & removing the passenger side front wheel & then remove the inner plastic guard. There is a number of bolts & fasteners but a reasonably easy job. This is how all the factory wiring gets from under the bonnet to inside the car.

I've been leaning towards a JVC double din unit, that plays divx, does bluetooth and Ipod would be handy as well, though you have to buy the bluetooth and ipod cables for those functions separately which is annoying. I just don't trust the cheap ones on Ebay, but they have all the features you would want, and the name brands charge an arm and a leg for a unit without much built in.

The model I am looking at is the AVN726EA. It is apparently fitted to the high end Toyotas and Lexus and some of the european cars just the eclipse badge is missing.

Yeah, I think of speakers when I think of Eclipse, they are a good brand, didn't know they did this sort of thing. How much does that one go for? I like that it does Divx and already has built in bluetooth and Ipod with video, PLUS GPS. So many others don't have GPS, and bluetooth and Ipod are extra.

The cost quoted was $2500 fitted using existing speakers. that also included custom facia in carbon look.

Ah, at that price point GPS is available and all the other good stuff too. I am looking at the Sub $1000 JVC unit's and can't really understand why something at that price would not have GPS in it too, they are ripping us off.

From what I was told it is better quality than the other brands. Anyone who can recomend something on par with it for what it offers and quality let me know, as I am interested in any other brand that may be cheaper and as good if not better.
