As the title suggest, my high mount stoplight is now mid mounted thanks to the glue letting go.

I have tried repco, car bitz, o'brien glass & novus windscreens to no avail.

I had a 20 min standoff with the guy at mitsu parts today. i told him i wasnt leaving until he found out what they use to hold the light up, and if he couldnt find out, get me someone who could. So, he rings (whats left of) mmal's parts suppliers down south, who also have no idea. Everyone i talk to suggests i talk to someone else who ive already spoken to. :kb:

About the only thing i havent tried yet thats been suggested has been fish tank glue.

Does anyone here have any idea's? Ive tried double sided tape - that only lasts about 3 days. :tired:

Thanks

[And yes, i searched and couldnt find anything. If you feel you are better at searching than I, (which is very possible) be my guest and point me in the right direction.] :ninja:

Im not sure where the high mount is actually mounted (i have one mounted on the parcel shelf).

Depending on what the mount itself is made from, you *could* try loctite. They have a special adhesive for attaching rear view mirrors to windows, takes about 5minutes of good prep work, costs around $13 - available from Repco.

Note: this is not normal loctite, its a special adhesive for rear view mirrors, oh, and works a treat.

Sikaflex I believe the last argument came down to.... can't find the link :(

Tried the mirror adhesive, no go. (Was only $5.28 at trade price :D) In KJ & TJ the brake light is at the top of the window, and there is a small amount of glue holding a plastic clip to black painted glass.

This is the best pic i could find on Google that shows the high mount light easily

My mechanic said sikaflex, but apparently the primer for this is about $80 + the sikaflex. There has to be a cheaper and easier option :(

I literally glued mine back on 2 days ago and its holding strong using some stuff called SILASTIC. Its actually supposed to be used to repair window seals but the guy at autobarn said he had used it before to stick things to the window so I gave it a go.
I made sure all of the glue residue was removed from the light mount points and the window.
Glued the little mount points on and let the glue cure for 3 days before I slotted the actual light on.

This is the stuff I used when mine broke of ages ago:

http://www.selleys.com.au/Selleys-Araldite-Ultra-Clear/default.aspx

Its very important to make sure your spacing is spot on, so no excess pressure is forcing the clips inwards or outwards.

I used a lot of different glues before using this. The main problem I had, that was during those few 30-45 degree days we had in Melbourne not too long ago, the glue would lose strength and the clips would fall.

This glue, however, is heat resistant!

This glue dries clear, and it bonded with 5 minutes. I applied the glue and held the clips in place for about 1 minutes, applying a good amount of pressure.

Learnt to read lately? (Thats an excerpt from my original post)

Oh wait, thats right, your a mod who has worked on magna's for 78 years. Oh thank you wise one for your guidence.

Thanks for the info everyone else, i was a bit hesitant to use silastic, as i thought it would only take a couple hot days and it would be back down again, and i didnt realise that arlidite was heat resistant. I'll give it a go and keep you all updated.

Hey, i might even chuck in a few 'keywords' at the bottom, so next time someone is searching, they can find threads like this. Will make Mal's life a lot easier.

Just be careful, not all araldite is heat resistant. Read the packaging to make sure.

That particular Selleys one is heat resistant, but they sell a couple other variations that are not.

All the info is on their website, but in a nutshell:

5 Minute Everyday - weakens at 65 Degrees
Quick Set - weakens at 65 Degrees
Super strength - weakens at 100 Degrees
Ultra Clear - heat resistant

When I bought my car i found the rear stop light under the front seat. I used double sided tape and it held that well that i couldn't get it off again. Clean the window with metho and scrape all trace of the existing glue off. The double sided tape isn't thick enough so stick a double thicnes of the tape on the very back edge of the light, I also remember ussing a bit of sticky backed velcro on it as well but can't remember where i placed it.

That time of the month Darl??

Me being a mod has SFA to do with the fact that this has been covered many times, nor does the amout I know about Magna's......

I see your search ability is in need of work too, I have done this for you

And the real shame, if certain members did not screw up the tagging system and insist on creating crap tags etc, we would still have this in place for others to benefit from hmmm

And for the record, as I have stated in other threads, Mits use a double sided tape with a reactor/primer on the glass, similar to how the mirror is stuck on the front screen (only the mirror uses glue in place of the tape)

Perhaps if you spent more time moderating the keyword search feature instead of makeing usless comments it would be easier for people to search and not make these repeated threads. Not having a dig, not telling you how to do your thing, just playing the state the obvious game.

Thanks for the search link though, much appriciated. :)

Mate, you want to bring this out in the open then fair enough

You are walking a very thin line here with the way you are trying to egg me on

If you are pushing to have an infraction then you are going the right way

you have clearly found what you are looking for so all the best

BTW< DONT tell us how to moderate, if the "minority" of the members who screwed up the tags grew the f up then they would still be there. If you could read yourself which it is clear you can not, you would have seen in reception area that Tags etc CAN NOT BE MODERATED, ie if someone puts up an offensive tag, there is no way to see who did this. We have lives as well and have beter things to do than delete tags from these immature plebs
