Hello team,

Im wondering if any can inform me of how to adjust my clutch freeplay??

I've adjust the height fine and i've found the locking bolt which attaches to the rod which heads through to the master cylinder but i'm unsure exactly how to shorten it as my freeplay is double the spec (at 70ish mm v 35mm spec). Old clutch was never disengaging 100%.

On that note im measuring the freeplay by putting it into like 4th and waiting until the revs start dropping; is there a correct way to test the freeplay (the point where your clutch starts engaging).

Thanks for any help
aj

ok just looked at the manual on a manual and my car, as i will be doing mine soon.

Clutch pedal height: 173 to 178 mm
Free play : 6-13 mm

quote" measure the clucth pedal height ....bla bla if incorrect adjust pedal height bolt bla bla now press clutch pedal freely until resistance is felt..if incorrect. reach under dash and loosen lock nut and adjust pedal push rod until correct then tighten locknut." unquote.

one bolt is by itself which you probable know for pedal travel. the other is the pushrod. should make sense when you have a look.

the push rod is for freeplay only. the single bolt is the pedal traval

Info from manual about the manual!

cheers

let me know how you go.

ps: i would assume only! that the lower the pedal with in spec should give a nicer shorter pedal lever. if all else is not worn etc...etc.

.

Yeah but im unsure how to shorten this pushrod. I cannot see any means to twist it atm...

rotate the push rod
in the 3rd gen, the push rod rotates on a thread, making it longer, or shorter. (this will move your friction point)
that and the height adjestment bolt, will fix your freeplay.

I get that; is it rotated via screw or hex or similar is what i have been asking... thats what im struggling with at the moment.

Which is what i meant when i said:

Loosen the lock nut?
Twist the rod with your fingers?
Lock the lock nut back up?

OR
Pull the clevis pin?
Remove the rod from the car?
Do the above?

Freeplay is the amout of movement in the clutch pedal before it starts to push the master cyl, ie the loose bit when you first put your foot on the clutch.

Ideally your clutch should start to grab about 1/3 the way up from the floor, this will generally take care of itself provided all other aspects are ok such as the flywheel landing, the pivot height (i know we did discuss this before, I do not have the spec here though)

The hydrolics will set up your grab point, the most important thing is to ensure that you have free play at the top of the pedal so as to make sure you are not loading up your release bearing or even worse still, the clutch is not completely clamped.

ah sweet changed it, simple i know but i hadn't done it. Clutch now picks up alot sooner and the freeplay is lessened.

How are we meant to correctly test this??
My clutch feels pretty heavy so i cant tell where its starting to release. I was just checking by leaving it in gear on a hill and slowly putting the clutch in.

Thanks everyone especially Mal; hepled me out of a few situations.

just put your car on a flat surface, and slowly release your clutch, till the car moves.
thats your new friction point.
dont worry you will get used to it pretty quick.
mine wasnt releasing fully when the peddel was mashed to the floor, and i had notchy gear changes so i had to rev match. tired bleeding the line aswell. as i had recently put new fluid in.

nah the free play not the friction point. Bleeding it on friday.
