Anyone done a DIY job on their factory skirts? If so how did you prepare them before painting them? I was thinking of roughing them up with a bit of scotch-brite, then get all the dust and crap off with some meths, then wash them down with soapy water and then paint. How does that sound?

if they are painted already rub em down with some sandpaper.....then get some primer (plastic primer / bumper primer) do 3-4 coats of that, let that dry. Rub it back a little with some very fine sand paper to have a nice smooth surface, then get the dust off and its ready to paint. 3-4 layers of paint, then some clear coat over the top of that.

hey, i did mine like you said, but make sure you use a Flexi Primer on the skirts before you paint them, this helps the paint stick to the plastic. Mine looked okay, but there was a noticable difference in colour between the skirts and the rest of the car. So i got a panel beater to do it properly for me when my car was in getting every panel on the right hand side of the car replaced or repainted as a result of a f****n kangaroo. now they look great.

Does any one know approximately how much it'd cost to get a panel beater to do it all?
ie: take your car in and say 'I want my side strips colour coded to match the rest of the car, see you in a few hours'. Couldn't possibly be too much could it? I was thinking of doing it myeslf but I wouldnt mind a pro job.

I went to talon and the guy behind the desk told me $650 without even bothering to look at the car. I talked to a panel beater I knew and he offered to do it for $250 for me. You just gotta shop around :)
