View Full Version : TL dash facia in my KJ

thought i'd post up a couple quick pics..

i'm a little OCD when it comes to uniformity... hated the fact that the woodgrain of the KJ does not extend to the upper vents, or the cluster surround (that might look a little tacky anyway).. plus i don't really like fake woodgrain... has a certain cheapness to it... like a steven segal movie...

anywho.. got a TL radio surround, and lower compartment, along with the Climate control unit, and metal cdplayer brackets (different to the KJ ones).. this is all you need to change everything from your KJ climate control setup (looks a little dated and battlestar glactica style) to the more contemporary later modle TL design.. the plugs from the KJ climate control plug straight into the TL one, everything works the same, but you don't get to see the outside temp anymore.

kept the KJ lower centre part (as i still needed at least one cig lighter jack for phone/gps etc etc), pulled out everything i wanted to match (cluster surround, pwr window trims, lower center console, radio facia), scuffed it with some 1000, plastic primed it, dusted a few nice coats of dark silver basecoat.. then 2K cleared them.. thought it came up pretty well

i'd suggest that any of the climate control 3rd gens can do that.. but i can't confirm 100%...

i have a spare perfectly working KJ DIN size climate control unit sitting there if anyone wants it too lol.. the other wood grain parts (and those steering wheel controls i should add ;) ) have been sold :)

Its something that's crossed my mind a few times in the past after MitchellO discovered the old and new climate fascias run on the same wiring, but I'd only do it if I got hold of some KL/KW woodgrain. Does give the car a bit more of a modern look dash!
