Hey, this is a long story so I've cut it back as much as possible so you dont get bored reading it. I got this TF recently and it had transmission problems. I got it checked and apparently had to have the whole thing replaced. As you all know, getting a new gear box for an auto not cheap. The dude that fixed it has stated that the cause of this was the "Thermostat Housing" was leaking coolant onto Trans Sensors. I'm no expert but I heard that it is not possible for a leak to completely destroy the Gearbox. In addition to this, the guy said that it was still leaking and they hadnt fixed it yet whenever I fell around the Thermostat thing, there doesnt seem to be any trace of coolant or any liquid. If anyone knows anything about this "leak" or if it was possible then please reply, as I am going to take action if they've sucked me into wasting my money!
Thanks
My only advice is get a second opinion

Interesting. My TJ sports 5 speed slipped and blew at 25 000km under warranty. My "refurbished" box is playing up now at 55 000km...
I keep telling them that I think it something else killing the boxes but they dont listen. Porlly have a 3rd box under warranty soon. :doubt: Not a got Mitsu experince from a $40k car.

Definatly get a second opinion. The thermostat housing is not in the gearbox through (unless there is a second thermostat housing in the gearbox - guys correct me if im wrong). Does coolant even flow through the gearbox? I didn't think so...
I know alot about magna's but the auto's have allways scared me  I still can't work them out lol
All i can suggest is get a second opinion, give the gearbox and oil and filter change as you would be surprised the difference it makes.
yeah - i dont like their "recon" boxes either..
my first auto blew after some *stupid* driving, which i have now learnt my lesson hard, but this second one gives me the shiztz! after driving hard for a little while it starts to flare which makes me think its a heat issue - but why didnt my first one have a damn heat issue!
stupid autos!!

hey,
well this was a recond box and the other week i took it back and got them to show me exactly where its leaking and just ask a few more questions, he blabed on sayin it was leaking here (and i didnt see ne coolent), so ive just had the coolent system presure tested to see exactly where the leaks coming from and it turned out there was no leak AT ALL, and weve just noticed its doing the same thing like it did b4 it got a rebuild, maybe its just a magna thing but it revs about 1200-1300rpm when you start it then when you put it in drive drops about 900rpm, but the main issue is when it changes gears it sort of changes then jurks then its ok till the next gear change
It doesn't go anywhere near as smoothly as it does in my dad's TH.
can any one help me more on this thanx

Mate, even if it was leaking there is not any where the coolant can get into the trans in the first place and the worst that may happen is the connectors for the electrical signals may corrode, that is of course if they did not replace the rubber seals inside the plugs which are designed to keep these dry.
I was my engine every week or two and have had not problems.
The short of the story is they are dodgy, if this is a reco trans, take them to consumer affairs and go them hard.

Well, the guy said it was leaking coolant on the sensor, coroded it and it caused an electrical fault, which then caused some clutch thing to burn out (personally, I didnt even think autos had any part that has anything to do with a cluth).
Oh well, looks like were gonna have to take them to consumer affairs  , but next week ill go back and show them that my macanic did a pressure test and it turned out ok with no leaks
i think they have a clutch (or number of clutches) that grip onto a planetary gearset...
although if he said that the connectors had corroded by dripping coolant you would think that if the signal wasnt getting through that would be causing the problem and hopefully fixing the connector might rectify it?
someone could probably clarify this though..
