heyas,

mate of mine who i have been helping with his S2 380 (base model, LS?)

First off, he doesnt have a trc switch anywhere (that we can see at least) and how mitsubishi controls slip in the wheels, i am a toyo fanatic so i know they are controlled by a secondary throttle body, is it the same as mitsubishi, or do they cut/retard fuel/timing?

also, i assume the ABS sensor is used in the TRC system as the 'slip sensor' which means theoretically, if i were to remove the abs fuse (if applicable) it would remove the TRC as well as ABS, this is correct, yes?

I ask because we plan to go to Whoop Ass Wednesday (kwinana) in the next few weeks and are looking at ways of controlling his launch (slushbox).

In addition to removing the fuse i was thinking of incorporating a switch wit an LED instead of removing the fuse, flick switch on, led turns on, trc/abs off, burnout, staging lanes, flick off, led off, trc on!

if you get the flow! or this there some circuit i can tap into and slap the switch in(without affecting ABS)?? i cant seem to find any wiring diagrams for the 380 so thats why i am asking!

i also realize once you fiddle with the ABS computer, you would have to reset the ECU because it will show the codes and abs light will be on all the time (if thats how mitsubishi works, i know its how toyotas work)

also, how do you reset the ecu, fuse or is there a reset button on it?

Remembering that this is a OFF-ROAD ONLY switch, no abs on the street can be dangerous, and would definitely void insurance!

thanxs all

The base model car is the ES, unless it was fitted with a special option pack under series II 380 ES did not have traction control as also reinforced by the fact he does not have the switch.

Traction control became standard on the ES on the series III cars.

I am sure if you tamper with the ABS and have a switch in line you would void warranty weather it is on or off for the street.

And yes no Traction swicth means no traction control

Reset ECU = disconnect battery for a minute. You'll lose all your radio stations but that's how you do it.

Remove ABS fuse = ABS error which wouldn't go away until the OBD code was cleared by a dealer methinks?

Yes I have a base model too (called Base Model for series 1) and it does not have Traction Control. The switch is within the panel of 3 oblong buttons near the ignition (including Bluetooth, Foglights, and Traction Control).
I got the Bluetooth and Foglights (Limited Edition pack), but not the Traction Control so that button is blank - so, yeah, if no button no TRC.

heya yall,

found out it doesnt have TRC, the sales rep that sold him the car said it did, so my mate believed him and never tried it out!!!

in the end, we found out that TRC is no where to be seen on his ES,

Just to confuse things even more, I have a base model 2005 manual with TRC. It was obviously fitted as a dealer option from new.

Thing is, it's practically useless.

I've conducted a number of tests, with and without it on, standing start and exiting a corner, and I can feel hardly any difference. On or off I can still get lots of wheel spin. When it's on it cuts the revs a little bit but still not enough to prevent wheel spin.

Waste of time I reckon, so I just leave it on all the time (otherwise I get this annoying 'TCL off' graphic & light on the dash).
