No TJ VRX AWD. No manual awd. Yes they are more powerful than the previous 3 ltr models. The TJ VRX has 163kw.

3L - 140kW
3.5L - 147/150/155kw depending on model/series
TJ VRX/Sports- 163kw due to a muffler.

There was a TJ AWD Sports though. Add a bodykit and you practically have a AWD TJ VR-X (the bodykit was basically the only difference between the FWD models).
Like Ange said, there was never a manual AWD, and so far noone has converted their AWD Magna to manual. The VR-X models have more power than the regular counterparts. All the FWD VR-Xes had 163kw. The 3.5l in the TJ-II Exec etc was 155kw. The sports exhaust on the Sports and VR-X allowed for another 8kw. TJ-1 3.5l was about 150kw. AFAIK the AWD Sports/VR-X models were 159kw - they were down because of a more restrictive exhaust.

Good point Red! Grab a TJ AWD Sport and add a body kit. That is an excellent suggestion.

If you want a VR-X AWD then you will need to get a TW. They where in production from October 04 to late June 05. I own one :woot:
Oh and the big difference between the 3L and the 3.5L is the torque, up from 255Nm to 318Nm (VR-X) about a 24% gain

Just have a drive of one and see what you think. I drove a TJ VR-X and my TJ Sports before settling on the Sports. The VR-X was just touching the 200,000km mark and the engine was healthy but the clutch and shift action weren't (little bite in the clutch and a very sloppy throw). The Sports had a tighter engine (at 147,000kms), a very accurate shift action, better clutch. The VR-X on Firestone 225/50R17 tyres couldn't maintain traction in first in a straight line, the Sports on Bridgestone 215/60R16s could. After an oil change and a few thousand ks of stretching the engine's legs it now feels just like the engine in the VR-X did, but the gearbox and clutch are much better. It doesn't feel like it's overpowered for a FWD.

ok ive just been lookin at another member (ih8hsv) on here and im pretty new to this so bare with me if this sounds stupid but hes gotten '2001 Mitsubishi Magna VRX 5 Speed Manual 129kw @ The Wheels' written. now im not a hundred percent sure how kw are measured but is there a reason why that would be different from the 163kw thats said to usually accompany vrx's???
cheers

the kw figures you have been quoted for the VRX is at the engine. When a car goes on a dyno to measure power, its measured at the wheels. That figure, depending on whether its an auto or manual, would be between 10-30% higher.

yep, all manufactures state engine power ratings, not actual power that is being put to the ground.
like the ralliart is rated 180KW, but it wont put that amount of power to the ground. autos will put less power down than a manual, as there is more power loss through the torque converter

Which ever way you decide to go, TJ VRX or an AWD Magna variant, i think you'll be a happy camper. Value for money, these cars are hard to be beat.
