View Full Version : new to aussie magna
hey guys im new here.
i have a 97 tf magna manual 3.0l, bought it for $1100....... ****** hot!
paid $1500 i think, for the new motor.
and i have a few bits and pieces i want to do but not sure how much its going to set me back and where to get parts from. ( im in melbourne, east)
so i just want to speed my car up a bit and not spend too much money
i was looking on rpw at extractors and was wondering if there was any places over this side of town that do a good set of extractors and aren't too expensive. or weather i should just go through them.
and also an exhaust system, not realy familiar with whats out there so was looking at cat back systems but same again where can i get 1 and how much.
I was looking at bits n ******s to stop the torque steering coz thats just driving me up the bloody wall.
like a front strut brace or something. only because lsd's are like 1500 bucks and im a tight ass lol.
i want to lower my car too but was only able to find a set of king springs ( low ) wich didnt seem to satisfy my need to sack the crap out of my car. so if any 1 knows of any other brand of springs that will get a nice ride height ( legal) plz let me know other wise i will spend the 60 bucks on spring clamps and chop chop the standards.
if any one has any other ideas, info or anything please let me know.
i have set my budget at around $1500 for now but will still look at spending more later on when i have the $$$ to back it all up.
thanks guys

Welcome mate. Car looks pretty tidy from the shot. Was that taken in 2004 or is the date wrong on the camra.
As far as your springs go, don't cut them. It will ride like a pig, and damage the spring.
Kings have a Superlow for the front and only lows for the back. This will bring your car down quite a bit without really affecting your ride quality.
Check out my thread on my Verada to see the height.

car looks nice dude love the colour coding with the trim and mirrors thats what i want to do. yer the date on the camera is way off lol i took them not that long ago i have only had the car since jan this year. its not in too bad nick i have a little scratch on the front and rear bar a slight bend in the middle of the rear bar and a dent on the top of the rear right pillar all was there when i bought it, ill get around to fixing it 1 day lol. thanks for the tip with the springs too much apreciated.

You scored yourself a 5sp manual. Well done
Lovells (http://www.lovells.com.au/) do superlow springs all round. Approx 60mm drop. A search here will bring up some pictures.
There's a few different manufactures of extractors and cat-back systems. Pacemaker, RPW, Redback etc. Again a search will bring up numerous options and opinions.
Welcome to AMC. Enjoy the stay :)

Firstly, welcome to the club.
I'm sure it will be said many times, but the search feature is ur friend.
The amount of info can be quite daunting at first, and you may have to sift through quite a bit before you find exactly what you need, but even all that info is not wasted.
I agree with wollongongVerada - don't cut ur springs! Apart from the crappy ride, its illegal and can damage other suspension components.
thanks guys, i new spring choping was a bad idea lol but was gona do it anyway but the lovells all round sound like a top idea. thanks guys oh and for any 1 in the melbourne area you might spot me from between lilydale to bayswater i have a vb bar mat across my parcel shelf atm it varies it could be on the dash but i would love to be seen on the spotted thread lol.

You should look at getting your air intake replaced, in the pic its missing http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/6024/1051107.jpg
You will be sucking in alot of hot air with it set up like that.
You could even look at a CAI, being a manual, it might be a good option.
yer i took it off lol its sitting in my garage it seems to get better air flow if you take it off me and my brother both did it he also has a tf, i would like to do an air intake system but not the $300 odd dollar 1 thats on rpw. i think i would be able to do the exact same setup for a bit cheaper a couple of lengths of hose a stainless steal insert for between the hoses a few hose clamps a couple of brackets and a pod filter. it looks realy bogan how i have it now lol it makes me laugh.

Please do not associate Bogan with magnas :)

It'l look neater if you can extend the MAF wiring down the bottom so that way it's out of the engine bay and then you can just have shiny alloy pipe! :D

You can make one of those intakes that RPW sell for under $170 i made one like that B4 i went supercharged.
haha my bad. alrite replace bogan with ghetto lol
lol i didn't even realise there was page 2 lol, ahm whats a MAF??? i thought it said muff wen i first opend the page lol..
ohh also guys i got on the lovell's website to look at super lows and noticed the only place you can get em is the **** end of the universe, does any 1 know of anywhere sort of bayswater area that sell them. or if you can get them through repco or autobarn or something. cheers heaps

MAF is the air metering device the magnas use. They arent round like other cars, so thats why a lot of places charge the earth for intakes, because at some point you have to have a oval shape in it to insert the MAF sensor housing.
Do you guys have aussie auto down there in VIC? i think you have Bursons' right? We dont, but aussie auto are good. Can order in anything and prices are pretty damn good for anything brands they carry.
ahh i see... sort of. lol
nah i have never heard of aussie auto but we definitly have bursons never actualy been into 1 but there around.

MAF basically translates into Maximum Air Flow. This sensor sits on the inlet plumbing between the airfilter box and Throttle Body. On Magna's (and other mitsubishis) they are an oval shape, not round like most cars (most ive seen) so a lot of company's see this as an excuse to flaunt crazy prices for average engineering and build quality. Pretty much the problem with all cars that arent mainstream modifiers choice.
ahhhh i see now, and it has a screw in the top of it to change air/fuel mixture and something to do with the idle, my brother was stuffing around with it thats how i no lol.

As for your exhaust question.
You could either go for a 'Lukey' or a 'RedBack'
i Prefer the note of the redback but there is not much difference.
Fairly quiet at idle, a beast at 2,500-4,500 :P
P.S love the 5sp Manual, u lucky ****** lmao
yer got my bad biatch from killsyth wreckers all she needed was the new motor and hey presto here she is.. i am very lucky to have it. thanks for the post mate. will def look into both exhaust systems coz im over the standard 1 lol lol

Maximum? You mean Mass right?

Mass, Max, who cares, same crap

yeah ive heard mass, manifold, maximum. I guess the real important thing is that magnas DONT run a MAP sensor from factory. As odd the the MAF the magnas use are, they are up there with the best resolution/maximum flow MAFs available.
so i need to look into lovell super low springs a redback or lukey exhaust and a cai. anything else guys ????
thanks for the help too much apreciated
