Hi folks,

I've just acquired myself a 97 V6 manual to sort my everyday duties. While I’m fairly well versed in Skylines & old Holdens, I’ve never had a Magna before & was hoping to get stuck in to making it a decent tidy car. As an old school Skylines Australia lad it’s great to see there is a solid club scene to get into!

The new ride already has lowered springs, a set of 16’s, tints & a bit of a system in but there is a few fix-it job and a few newbie questions I hope to sort. Any help would be muchly appreciated

First one, what is that weird plastic box on the intake pipe after the AFM?

Second, can you unscrew the mirror insert from the colour coded bucket with the mirror still in there? Basically the mirror has come off its swivel ball and I wanted to replace it without getting the whole assembly and having to spray it to the colour of the car.

Lastly, I’ve got a bit of shudder under acceleration in 5th gear. I did a search but the matches aren’t the same symptoms. CV’s? Engine mounts (as one of them looks shot)? Anyone had similar?

Cheers!

Hey mate welcome to AMC!!!!! Hope to see you out on Tuesday!

If your engine mount is buggered, you probably wanna change that first to combat the shuddering, is the engine missfiring or does it feel more mechanical?

Which box are you talking about after the AFM? There are a few resonators there........

Get some pics up so we can have a geez :woot:

There is HEAPS of information on the forum, get used to using that search button as there is info on just about everything about your Magna

Hope to catch you at an event soon

Cheers!

The box in question is that almost triangular job with the moulded cross hatching sitting on top of the intake ducting straight after the AFM. Seriously... looks like it really has no purpose.

The seach on the shudder suggested maybe an inner CV.... so these things have 2 CV's on the drivers side shaft? With the mirror I might just head out to Pick & Paymore or similar & have a play around to see if it can be done.

gday benno.

when youre out and about nex time, go and buy 2 poweraide drinks and enjoy them. once you're done with the drink, use the lids to fill in the hole that is left when u take the resinator off. Y 2? if you have a look under the pipe there may or may not be a 2nd resinator on the intake, i know my car had 2.

Just leave them there, dyno test have shown that taking them off in some cases makes no difference and in some cases you will have a slight loss in torque under initial acceleration.

Your filter set up is also not ideal, you will get better results with a clean panel filter.

Shudder, start with your mounts but you may end up with new shafts as these tend to dry out and will cause exactly whay you are having issues with.

Cheers for the responses folks.

Fair dues, the omg fully hektik pod is clearly not ideal but unfortunately the car didn't come with the original air box. I can see myself spending a bit of time/money at the wreckers...

Mounts....where to buy? Are there aftermarket ones or do you have to buy them from notsosquishi?
