Hi all, about a year ago, I installed a second hand set of low king springs on the front and rear of my 98 Tf magna, and installed new Monroe GT Gas shocks at the same time. When standing behind the car yesterday, I noticed that the car seemed to be tilting towards the driver side. I then measured from the bottom of the rear wheel arch on both sides and the drivers side was sitting 1.2 cm lower then the other. I have also noticed for a while that at times, the car gets a real sway from side to side when going along the highway, the back seems to walk a bit. I put it down to the road, but could the two things be connected? Is it likely that the spring or the shockie could be gone?
Thanks.

You should jack the car up and check that all the springs are seated properly and that all the rubber seats are still intact.

the same thing has happened with my car,i've come to the conclusion it's from the extra weight on the drivers side so the right hand side has 'settled' a bit lower than the left.
make sense?

It is a natural act when the LHS is not used as much as the RHS

No.
It's most likely a collapsed damper. Same thing happened to my fiances old 99 Lancer. It sat lower on the rear left. We got the suspension changed and the rear left damper could be compressed with your hands and wouldn't rebound at all.

Disciple my car sat like that within a month of installing brand new kings springs and KYB shocks.could the front and rear drivers side shocks both have collapsed in that short period of time and why only on the drivers side and not on the passenger side?

I guess the only way to tell will be to have it checked out. The swaying effect I feel at times could indicate a failed shock absorber.

check your rear control arm bushes, my old car used to sway like a mofo on the hwy, after i got them replaced no sway :)

It's unlikely, but as above, possible for the bushes to be worn out prematurely with stiffer dampers. I would get it checked out if it's a concern.

did you make sure the car was sitting on a perfectly flat and level surface?

Yeah it was a level carport. Thanks for the suggestions, given me somewhere to start! Are control arm bushes a DIY job? I have changed springs and shocks myself.

Ride height variations are up around 8mm are not uncommon but 12mm seems a bit excessive.
Some things to think about:
Was the drivers side/passengers side springs fitted on the correct side? Just noticed springs were not new so may not have been tagged drivers side/ passengers side(long spring is drivers side, shorter on passengers side).
Did you measure from the bottom lip of the rim up to the guard? This is more accurate for comparison as it eliminates wheel center guesstimations and tyre wall height variations due to different tyres, tread depth, or pressure.
Cheers,
Alan
