Hi all,
I just bought the crossbars for my roof racks off ebay, i've noticed that you need like a special tool to attach them to the rails? Does anyone have the tool? Or is there something else that i could use that won't burr them?

Search should throw up an older thread where specialised roof-rack tool (to suit certain brand of rack) was needed.
As I recall, no one seemed to have the tool req'd, but there were some suggestions about how to do it.
If your roof-rack is not yet installed, can you just substitute a "normal" bolt, rather than the anti-theft one that's in there now??

Yo! lol
Yer my rack had a star key..set up. Went to pick a part today and the same rack had a weird half cut set up.
Go to a good tool supplier and they will help you out.!!!!!!
all the best.

Ok sorry just read it better
wombat! are they a hex type with the ends trimmed?
Should be a std thread if there out get a new bolt should be about 8 mm to 12 mm ans a metric thread. My guess would be 12mm.
If thats the case i'll look more in to it for you.
All the best and hope your well.

Yeah its a hex looking bolt with the ends trimmed off, really weird, good idea ill just pull them out and replace the dam things, can't imagine too many people wanting to steal roof racks off a magna anyway.

I can tell you right now that these keys were only given to car owners when they bought a wagon with roof racks attached from the factory. I've tried going to hardware stores to sort it out and there has been no luck at all. I spent 12 months on and off searching this piece and only came across the tool when I was selling something on eBay to a fella. He came by to pick up his win and said, "Oh, did you wanna take those racks off?" Had it on his keyring and the racks came right off.
Any more questions please feel free to send 'em my way.
I'll see if I can find the thread I posted.

If you can find a random person driving around that has a Magna/Verada wagon with roof racks and you ask them really nicely then they might lend it to you for a little while. THe only problem with it is whether they know where their bolt key is.

I should be right, mine aren't attached to the car and i don't plan on attaching them unless i need them for something, i only really bought them so if i sell the car having the crossbars puts the value up a bit, i only paid $10 for them but it might put the value of the car up by like $100:hmm:
