I wonder if anyone has some ideas on what went wrong in my auto transmission (TJ).
The oil level used to be correct when it was working (ie in the hot range when hot and in the cold range when cold), but since all the gears stopped working the oil dipstick indicates the transmission of way over filled (way above the hot range even when cold). I haven't added any oil, so I was wondering why it now appears over full ? Is this an indication of a stuffed oil pump in the transmission ?:roflwtf:

Mark,

As it has been a good while since your TJ did the dirty on you and died, maybe it is possible that tranny fluid has darined from oil galleries and possibly torque convertor back to oil pan??

I'm guessing right out of the top of my head here. Torque Convertor holds a fair bit of fluid, but in honesty I don't thinkit would drain from there.

If you have a look at exploded diagrams in Workshop Manuals, maybe that'll give you some clue. Manuals are in Tech Torque forum, linked to PDF files, in case you didn't know.

Has your new car (Pug?) been treating you well?

Hi Phil,

I'll probably figure it out when I pull the old box to bits. Thanks for the direct to the manuals, have downloaded a copy, but will have lots more questions when I come to put Mohit's old box in. Do I need special tools to get the driveshafts out (lower ball joints etc), the manuals see to suggest it.

The Peugeot's a lot better than I thought it would be. Went for a turbo diesel in the end coz I missed the grunt of the V6 after trying out an i30 Hyundai. Wife thinks it's her car, but we'll see.

cheers
Mark
