I have been able to pick up a centre console and coin tray from a verada and want to wire a 12v socket into the coin tray. Would i have to splice into the original 12v socket wiring in the dash in my TJ advance or is there a plug already set up in the centre console between the seats I can feed off?

When you remove the lower console panel (sometimes called floor console) - the panel around the gear selector - look for a "blank" four wire plug which is bolted to a metal cross member about where the cupholders would sit. You may have a 'bare' loom connector, but its likely that Mitsi have thoughtfully provided a blank plug already clipped into the connector - its the "squeeze tab on side to release the clip" common type. Roughly sqaure shape and 2x2 layout.
That there, sir, is your Phone Kit Connection. It has Constant 12V power, Accessory (switched) 12V power, earth, and HU Phone Mute wires. Check wiring diagrams in Workshop Manuals for the colour code of these wires. You can go to Dick Smith etc to get crimp/solder connectors which will clip into the "empty" plug, or you could use insulated spade lugs and just poke onto the appropriate wiring position in the plug (this is a less-secure option). For the life of me, I can't remember if you need male or female connectors - have a look and you'll work it out.
One trick I did was to buy a "Narva" brand toggle switch - but it is an "on/on" switch..... this lets me choose to switch between "always on" or "only on with key" power for my extra cig sockets - this is useful if I have a flat phone battery and want to top it up from car battery with phone locked in car (eg: gone to a movie etc).
Check this out, a much cleaner way of doing it :)

If it's for a GPS or iPod charger or ledz or something you might want to consider splicing into the wiring and then just plugging them in behind the dash somewhere, looks good and you will have less clutter

I like both suggestions by Life and Peter_P, but OP has a verada coin-tray with provision for a power-socket built into it - I reckon he might as well pop a socket in there as not. Even using a TL storage pocket like Life, it'd be easy to run wires down to phone-kit point, cos you can then simply unplug one connector if you need to have dash out for HU change-over, painting panels etc.
I actually have a multi-socket adaptor shoved in under the gearshift console, and plug phone, uhf and Ipod adaptors in under there (semi-perm) and run the curly-cords out through the hole for armrest latch. If not needing cords, flip them back into armrest bin, grab them when phone needs a boost (Ipod is always attached to power in its cradle). If I need to swap an adaptor to another car (rare, I have a set for each of my own cars), its simple to lift the armrest bin and retrieve the adaptor I want. All this stuff doesn't pull much power, so am happy to run multiple things of phone-kit power wires and fuse.

Thanks guys, I have a 'normal' TJ centre console with the open drink holder and no coin tray lid. I want to swap it for the verada style hence the enquiry about wiring.
Thanks for the feedback.

@Elwyn, sounds like a good setup! I especially hate long dangly GPS cables running across people's dash.... mine tucks in with the a-pillar, looks sweet

I'm only just adding dedicated cig socket for GPS, and am putting it somewhere near fuse box - as I always have TomTom stuck in drivers corner of windscreen, where I can easily control it right-handed. I'll probably bring the GPS plug up the gap at bottom of A-pillar trim. (need to figure out, or find, a way to stop the mini usb plug slipping back down the crack - need some kind of cord anchor.....)
Am off to Sydney tomorrow night or Fri, so plan to hit Jaycar, self-serve wreckers etc for more Magna goodness!!

How about putting a socket under the dash tweeter pod? Just pop the pod and plug it in?

Good Idea!! I'll trial-fit the idea of running the GPS cord up through the pod - am bit concerned that TomTom cord is bit soft and the dash-pod may be too tight a fit...... I seem to have 'half-killed' my TomTom cord somehow, it still works but looks shocking!!
Thanks for a great Idea!!

If it becomes a problem, you could just cut a tiny notch out of the edge, unless you were looking at it, you wouldn't even see it.
