should get this in the mail either today or next few days, but who on here has a rear sway bar in their tr-ts, as i've heard confusing reports.. just be good to clarify..
is there any reason why it would NOT be recommended to have the brackets welded so they don't twist with just the bolt/ or would this be dangerous?

also is it true that when trying to install it, that it may hit the rear suspension (toe control arms on both sides) so u have to move the fitting out as far to the flange as possible t get it to fit?
any advice would be of great help

i have a rear sway bar, but on a KS wagon, so probably completely different. And I didn't install it. But can take pics if it may help you.

Hey Cass,

I've had issues with after-market sway bar hitting suspension on a 3rd Gen Verada. Company involved (Whiteline) were a bit stroppy initially, but eventually modded my first bar while they had a go at making me a new one - the new one isn't quite as good as the one they modded, but has only just gone on car. Actually, once I visited them they were fine - just the "office" man initially gave me the run-around and tried to fob me off (or so I felt).

I've only recently read in these forums that having the brackets welded is preferable..... I don't think I've had issues with the way its mounted yet - but am thinking about whether I should get it welded on my car. Welds would have to be really done well...... hmm, thinking it over!!

EDIT: Dunno if you'll have issues on your 2nd Gen. When it arrives, give it a trial fit and see how it looks - also try the horsey float and see if that changes matters on your car.

Will hopefully be installing one over the weekend on my 2nd gen sedan (along with some new shockies/springs :) ) provided it stops pouring rain (in Brissie atm), we weren't planning on welding the brackets so I can take a few pics of the install if you like? I bought my sway bar from Shawn at Phillcom rally, spoke to him about the installation and he said it was pretty easy and he hasn't had any problems with the ones he has personally installed

I got my mounts welded as there is actually no specific hole for you to attach it too, just chassis. so you can drill a hole and bolt it and weld it, I opted for the welding option so I knew it would never come off. (memory is scarce as it got done years ago..)

if the front is ok ...the back can be stiff. look at FWD race cars. the inside rear lifts always. i say keep the rear stiff and allow for the front to move a bit as with out a locked or LSD you will go know ware under race conditions only.

For the street well same applies but not as much as you should'nt be going that quick?

think thats right

I was under the impression that a stiff rear swaybar reduced understeer and made it more likely to skip the rear out :tired:

yes in theory you are both right, but seeing as how the magna is not rwd, there is no push from the rear end like say a falcondore, so it is extremely unlikely that without hitting the inside curb of a road or hitting a slick, its not liekly for the rear end to break out.

lol you should see mine in damp conditions haha. Probably more to do with the ****-house tyres on the back, but with a good thick rear sway bar the rear is more likely to push out under trail-braking. fun.

I'm with Peter on this one, it will stop the rear from rolling as much, and decreases understeer. A front swaybar will do the opposite though. And I also have a rear swaybar

hmm well now we're hearing different answers that are true concerning each individual. so what is the solution? do strut braces do anything other than get you a fine?

Will be really interested in how it feels after installing the bar, make sure you let us all know. Considering getting my hands on one

Best handling modification you can do. your 2nd gen will NOT feel the same after getting one of these badboy's on.

Magna's have a front swaybar as standard. All cars should really have a rear swaybar, but the 2nd gens don't, so putting a fairly stiff swaybar on the rear makes a huge difference, as you are coming from nothing. Upgrading the front rollbar will also improve things, however if your front swaybar is too stiff compared to your rear one, it will understeer too much. But generally you can say, adding a rear rollbar will make a huge difference (positive difference), and upgrading your front roll bar will probably also have an overall benefit, but go too far and it may throw the handling balance out.

I cant really comment on the exact difference it makes, as apart from being a wagon, I had it added at the same time I changed to lower, stiffer springs and new KYB shock-absorbers which have a huge effect themselves, so I dont really know what difference I can attribute to the rear swaybar.

Some people swear a strut brace makes a noticeable difference, other disagree. I think from what I gather it makes a small difference in tightening up the front end, making it feel a bit more solid and responsive.
