Hey guys, put in a CD player a few weeks back, since I've done that I've had no lights on my speedo, revs cluster area or tail lights.
I went to an auto elec an as I said I put a head unit in a few weeks ago.. he interrupted an said you have no dash lights or tail lights? And I said yeah. He said the problem is very common. Something to do with the head light switch or the wiring?
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what was the fix? Was it much trouble? I'm ganna book it in some time over the next week or two, but wouldn't mind having a go at it myself before I take there if it's not too hard. Any help would be great.
Cheers.

Im hoping you have checked the fuses......... engine bay and footwell.
Did you put the CD player in with the battery still connected?
If so its quite possible you just blew a fuse.....

Bring it over mate, I am sure I can find the issue fairly quickly
If you have no dash lights due to the switch, you will also have no parkers either

haha two in one day (sorry im an auto sparkie and this happens all too often).... check that you didnt connect your vehicles dash light feed to the earth of the radio (green/white or black/yellow)
if you connected the black/yellow to the black of the radio then you may have also smoked your rheostat

Yeah no parkers either. Yeah fuses have been checked. I'm not a complete n00b. Just half a one. I remember once the head unit was in, once I turned it up to near full volume, it would cut out. So I ended up changing one of the wires, can't remember which one exactly, might have been the earth I think.
So from what your saying, it sounds like that's probably what I've done. I'll pull it apart some time over the next few days when I get the chance and have a look at it. Thanks for the help guys.

Connect the earth wire for the stereo to the car frame, NOT the wiring loom! hopewfully you haven't stuffed anything up, just don't use your headlights! :)

If you are wanting to drive to the eastern subs I am more than happy to have a gander, either way I know what to test and how to fix (I hope lol)

Cheers for the offer. But wanna have a go myself. Trial an error. I'll figure it out eventually then in future I'll know what to do :)

I dare say that's a factor. If you've wired the dimmer up just disconnect that for the time being and see what happens. Stereo could easily be shorting the dimmer circuit which might kill the lights.
