My battery went dead one day and since then i have not been able to use my radio (security reasons).
I looked through the booklet and the security code has been torn out (as it had to be) but not passed on with the car when i bought it.
Its a 1997 Altera TE. Is there a way I can get around that or do i have to go to the dealer and sort it out? Can i apply directly to Mitsubishi without going through the dealer who sold me the car?

go to A dealer, give them your VIN, you may have to privide proof of ownership like a rego paper, and they will give you the code. Doesnt have to be the dealer you bought it from. This happened with our pathfinder and this is how we went about it.

I got sick of this and upgraded the head unit to an aftermarket. Had to ring the same panel beater my parents used a month after they did cos they didn't write it down.

Over the phone???? Sooo, anyone could get a VIN from rego sticker, call Mitsu, get the code and then break in to that car and steal that Super HiFi Sound System, worth thousands.

Chances are that super HiFi sound system is aftermarket and won't have the same security code as the factory unit.

I was being sarcastic about the Mitsu stock "sound system".....
But seriously, it's bit too un-safe just over the phone. Unless they think no one would steal such c**ppy stereo.

I can see a lot of thieves suddenly gaining an interest in insured AMC members car stereos :hmm:
