AWD Extractors.
Been asked before.
Do a search as I have been told to;
NO pacemakers for the AWD.
Hurricane / Liverpool exhaust are greedy pigs and want too much money.
RPW, not HPC coated is around $600 delivered from memory.
HM Headers, especially when on Ebay for $495 look like good value.
Again use the search function and you will find several good comments about HM.
They apparently made the OEM ralliart system and the modified one for the AWD rally cars.
Because of this they are on my buy list to go with a certain inlet manifold that is now in production!

Add in a controlled cam advance , go search again, and it appears that it will unleash the AWD a bit.
BTW, in the heavy rain in Sydney yesterday, it was great fun to floor it, with absolutely no wheel spin, to the legal limit alongside a 300KW Holden ute and a KJ Verada and look back to see that they were about 150 metres behind!!

Hi Kosij, top chioce on an AWD
The awd misses out on pacemakers but the hurricanes are our best low end and midrange performer. I've driven a HM equipped AWD (TL) and it had nothing down low, mid range was ok top end seemed about normal to me. The HM car's owner drove my car (TJ) and couldn't believe how different they were for being the same car practically. Yes this was before my rebuild and I did have my Streetfighter prototype on.
The other notable advantage of the Hurricanes is that they supplement the Raptor Supercharger style - helping low end while boost is still building, while having a large enough bore to move the high rpm and high boost gas volumes as well.
If you want I can go thru my contacts and see if I can squeeze a better price on the AWD hurricanes for you? Where are you located? Might even get a group buy together if they'll join the party.

I might have to try to scrounge up some savings.... :(
Damn it... All these nice things to buy when there are so many other things to 'waste' money on... ;D
have a good look at the front sect. of the AWD exhaust and that will convince you its worth it...should bin the cat. as well!

I had a spun bearing and before we knew that we though my cat may've collapsed, so I replaced it with straight pipe and with a spun bearing picked up 4kw atw! lol
Righto, I'll get some info together for a group buy and report back mid week.

I have fitted 2 sets, one Hurricane and one RPW
Thomas (RPW) has pirated his off the Hurricane in most ways but still managed to stuff them up so they do not really line up very well That guy needs condoms on his fingers as he seems to screw everything he touches. I had to "modift" the pipe as the flex pipe hits the floor. Not sure really why the flex pipe is where it is and not back before the O2 sensor
The hurricane were better but then again a mongeral to fit, had to really work to get the rear bank into place.
Then again I would rather work twice as hard than to fit anything RPW

Thanks for all the comments.
After reading that the HN headers were not really suited for an application on the AWD where low down torque enhancement is a must, I then started looking at the Hurricane / Liverpool exhaust VS RPW.
It comes down to cost. Hurricane are really expensive.
RPW are around $600.
Up to you EzyBoy,
If you can get a good group price out of Hurricane I will definitely be in!

Yes rpw did have issues with fit but they supposedly fixed that....mine fitted-up good!

The AWD needs headers due to the very bad rear bank engine pipe join killing flow. If you look at the photos you see it even turns forward and flows the wrong way. By comparison the FWD pipes are quite good. The other photo is the HM secondary join.
There is basically nothing wrong with the design of HM. I have them on my AWD and other than the weld quality there are no issues. Ralliart used stock HM on their AWD rally Magnas.
Those that claim HM lose low speed torque have it wrong. Short primary pipes help low rpm torque providing they are connected to long secondary pipes. It is long primarys that lose out at low speed because the secondarys end up short and bigger volume dampens ex pulse. To get low speed grunt you must have small dia short primarys about 12-15" long and small dia long secondarys about 22" minimum but preferably 24-26" long.
Now for some measurements:
STOCK AWD
Cast manifolds; center branch 3.5", outers 5.5" 40-41mm id
Rear engine pipe; 13.5" (including 4.5" contained in the cast manifold) 53.5mm od
Front engine pipe; 26.5" (including 4.5" contained in the cast manifold) 53.5mm od
STOCK FWD
Cast manifolds; center branch 3.5", outers 5.5" 40-41mm id
Rear engine pipe; 24.5" (including 4.5" contained in the cast manifold) 53.5mm od
Front engine pipe; 27.5" (including 4.5" contained in the cast manifold) 53.5mm od
HM HEADERS
Rear header; 11.5" branches 40.5mm od
Front header; 12" center branch and 12.5" outers 40.5mm od
Rear secondary; 20" 51mm od
Front secondary; 22" 51mm od
The HM primarys are at the minimum length but the tube size is smaller than stock which picks up torque. The secondarys are a touch short from what I would say is ideal but only dyno tests would confirm that. HM have a dyno for development and may have found the shorter than my ideal sec length was OK, or it fitted the stock system better that way. Also note that the HM has smaller than stock sec pipe dia. This would give stronger lower rpm pulse signal to pick up torque.
Cheers,
Alan
Once again, you come up with some good information there Alan !

Alan, you and Graham have about 5days to grab a drive of my awd in natmo so you see what a minor amount of work can achieve for these cars. PM me and we'll hook up. Cheers. I'll email Graham or call him on thurs.

Ian good to learn of progress with blower. I'm too far away to take up your offer. Don't know about Graham but last contact he was getting air tickets organised to fly overseas in a few days with his masters and a pair of Magna cams in his bag.

I have pacemakers on my Verada 02 but my one is a FWD but i bought the extractors for about $800 including the HPC coating.Mate, they do the trick so i reckon they will benefit your AWD and when i got them through my mechanic,he asked me if my car was FWD or AWD and the last time i checked the pacemaker site, they make them for the AWD model but you might be best ringing them as i could be wrong.
They have the Tri-Y setup in which my mechanic said that they are a really good flowing system so any advice he gives me,i take up as he's a weapon of a performance guy but hopefully you can get a set cause i've noticed a difference on my car in performance and fuel!

Gee, which to look at.
So some say HM has more low down torque and some say Hurricanes do.
For a stock AWD with no mods planned, which would be the best? Give more torque down low?
Great pics there to explain it. Unbelievable how bad the stock system is.
Any one comment on sounds from each? I have a KJ AWD with a genuine sports muffler on it and when puched hard, it sounds absolutely terrible. No nice note at all. More like a thrashing air machine.
Will these pipes give a nice or better note?
Any video's or sound files of an stock AWD with the extractors going hard down a road from the outside would be much appreciated.

Been speaking with Hurricane and here's their feedback on our situation:

And if you've got an AWD and you haven't joined the social group, click or whatever it's called, do it while you're at the link!

Well then they must be selling old stock to the Vic members lol
I also fitted the Hurricane and the same issue, the flex pipe is way too far back for some reason and it also taps on the floor
Fix, cut and angle it by a few mm and all good

haha, you never know!..... There's 2 guys over here fitting some in the next couple of weeks, so i'll find out how they go. 1 awd and 1 380.

I'm not sure what we did that day Mal, but when I took it to get the quote for the rest of the exhaust, they undid the four bolts holding the fron& rear bank to the y piece, twisted it & it sat perfect.
It was a long day, though.

Ends up the AWD ones fitted up fine, so did the 380 ones but one side was minus a sensor inlet. :io:
