Yep I've got 3rd gen springs in mine
Worth noting that the front shocks are also interchangeable.... theyare the same too... not sure about the rears though

I have TJ SL fronts and TE SL rears. lol. they fit no worries. just make sure when you put the springs in, you turn your top spring seat to ensure that the springs' in the right spot. otherwise, you'll end up with the studs on the wrong way and yu'll have to redo it. lol. pissed me off royally

Dampers are not interchangable as the mountings are different for the brake line, this however is the only difference
I used to have third gen rears in my Verada as they were a little stiffer.

So what are the chances of getting front coilovers from Philcom to fit into my 2nd gen...?? bolt straight up?

im guessing the answer to this would be no ?? , although the springs and struts may be the same i cant imagine the strut tops being the same but i could be wrong

But, if the rest of it is the same, why could you not just swap the strut tops over? Not so much about the coilovers now, I understand custom tops will have to be made, but if come the day a 2nd genner cant get std strut towers, anyone able to confirm to see if 3rd gens (maybe early... TE with the 2.4?) had the same strut tops? So we could use 3rd gen assemblies.

from memory going to wreckers, front 3rd gen struts will fit 2nd gen BUT you wont be able to secure your brake line to them. The brake line screws in behind the shock and curls around to meet the brake caliper. On third gen this bolt hole is in a different place and hence wont fit 2nd gen:)

the te 2.4 strut tops are the same as my tj vrx straight swap

Okay, so going off the information here, I could buy 2 x front coilovers and would only have to change my brake lines to make it work?

Yeah I reckon...... You would just need to fasten the brake line which wouldn't be too hard.

So this DEFINATELY wont fit in the REAR? yes or no? Phillcom wont sell me just 2 fronts... so if the rears bolt in (main issue) then ill get a full set.... not worried about brake lines, easy fix....

best bet is to go to the wreckers, rip a rear shock from a 3G and test fit it on a 2G...this way you'll know for sure and there wont be any 'i think i guess' crap

evo 7/8/9 fronts apparently bolt straight into 2nd and 3rd gen magnas aswell
rears can be made fit aswell but require modification
evo coilovers cheaper??? possibly... atleast ur not stuck with hotbits
