Hi Guys,

Not sure what the correct terminology is for this, but I recall after getting into a nice new BMW at night once that the interior light did not just turn off when the door was closed, instead it gradually faded out, probably about a second or two, but the effect was very schmicko. Perhaps some might call it rice, but I reckon it was class

Anyone know a definite way of making a magna interior light do this?

I was thinking of maybe inserting a capacitor on the positive wire into the interior light. Do you guys reckon this would do the trick? As capacitors would be fairly small, they should fit behind the roof lining without being noticeable, only problem I can think of would be heat....suggestions??

you can buy units off of ebay, i got one and u can set the time to fade off, say 15secs after the door closes then 3sec fade off if u know wot i mean, u can also buy the kits from jaycar that just fade off but the one i got stays on a bit then fades off, all you do is crimp it to the door swtich and set the time and then hide it behind the swich and then screw it back in

Verada's use fade-in and out lights. Maybe you could get it from mitsubishi.

mark, i'll look into it... a capacitor should do the trick... you just gotta match up the power of the globe to the capacitor... allowing the fade time be nice..

Thanks for the suggestion but I dont think this will work with 3rd gen magnas as the interior light does not actually work on the door switches directly. Its a combination of auto power off and ignition activated power off. Closing the door switch does not cause the light to go off instantly, hence, the reason to manipulate the power supply to the interior light directly...

Possibly, but I was looking at a cheap solution. Knowing mitsubishi its probably going to be more complicated and expensive than what I was really after...but I will look into this further if the capacitor idea fails. Thanks for the information in any case :)

Yeah, if you get a chance any information would be good. When I get a chance I will go to an electronics shop and ask them to recommend a capacitor that would be appropriate for this type of voltage and amperage. Might even try a few different ones to experiment with the fade time...

yeah mark... haven't had time to check the globes but the capacitor size depends on what power the globe is... its proportional, so a bit of trial and error would see you through! let me know what size the globe is (if you find out) and i can work it out exactly for you.

cheers

Jaycar sell a very cheap kit that can do this... In the Veradas I believe it is incorporated into the ETACS module.
