I have an 04 verada wagon - excellent family bus.

Just wondering tho - on redbook etc the power of the base 04 magna is 143kw and the verada 155kw for pre oct released cars.

Then the VR magna has 163 kw????

Is this mearly exhaust difference or is it ecu or cams etc?

Just wondering as i need to replace my exhaust and dont wont to short change my self on power by getting a magna front muffler rather than a verada one (if this makes sense)

Cheers

My 2003 Verada is rated at 155kw .... had the cams tweaked etc does not have a sports exhaust so when I change over next week it should bring it up to 163kw.

In your case you need to replace the rear muffler to a high flow one / Sports to gain approx 8kw. Try that first and you should feel a considerable difference to torque and acceleration best mod I did to my old TH Magna.

Search would probably turn-up more discussion (well, lots) on this topic. It is the REAR muffler, however, which releases a few extra Killer-wasps. The Sports/VRX in Magna, and GTVi in Verada have a free-er flowing straight-through rear muffler. Otherwise, exhausts are identical.

There are a few after-market equivalents of the free-flow OEM muffler - search will expose lots of discussion there as well.

Is your '04 a KJ or KL (cbf checking model history of what series ran till when)?

The 143kw engine was the dedicated gas 3.5 which was only available in the ES and LS. Your Verada will be the 155 kw version which is the same as the Magna ES and LS. The VR and VRX had 163kw as did the GTVi Verada. If you want to upgrade to 163 kw its as easy as a muffler change to a VR or VRX one.

You might wanna search forums, too - as your Verada is an Auto, some members have issues with the 'sports/VR" mufflers being drone-prone (!!) and was esp noticeable on Auto vehicles (tho, IIRC, AWD models were worse again for this issue?), as Auto's seem to sit about 2000rpm at highway cruise speeds and this was where the drone was most intrusive. Can't comment myself, still waiting to burn-out a KJ rear muffler before I try a better-flowing muffler on it, and my TJ Sports is a manual (it does around 2200-2400rpm at 100kmh)

I have a straight-through 'Tuffy' branded sports muffler and there is no drone and noticable change to sound and engine peak

cheers for all the info - i might try a free flow box - see what happens. Dont really want too much sound but the twat that reversed into the back and cracked/bent the rear box can pay a bit more for my enjoyment and possibly power.
