Today my beloved Verada AWD was written off in a traffic crash. An uninsured driver hit me whilst he was turning right into a driveway – he didn’t see me (in a bright red Verada !).

I had the Verada just over 4 years – bought it when it had 15,000km, and did 110,000km in it. With out a doubt the best car I’ve owned.

Remarkably well made – not a squeak or rattle despite the heavy use. The only problem was a faulty brake light switch – under $30 to replace.

Did a lot of off road driving, it travelled thousands of km on dirt roads and sandy tracks – it handled them all magnificently. Never put a foot wrong.

Last year I drove it 4,500km from Darwin to Perth in 3 days – never missed a beat.

In 2007 it got broken into – the thieves tried to break the door lock (didn’t succeed), then they tried to lever open the window – when that didn’t work they smashed the window. Not being able to steal the DVD player, they instead smashed it and part of the dash.

Always had it serviced (by Mitsu) on time, and it never let me down.

I’m going to try and get another Verada AWD – they are such good cars.

this may be a stupid question, but cause he was uninsured does he pay for it or will your insurance cover it?

rotten luck tho mann :(

I'm pretty sure the insurance company will pay out, and then go after the other driver to get their money back

As long as Whitlam can provide his insurance company with the uninsured driver's details (name, address, licence no, rego no, etc) he can make a not at fault claim and they will go after the uninsured driver to cover their costs.

Similar thing happened to me last year when an uninsured driver sideswiped me causing $2500 worth of damage to my car. Since i provided all details to my insurance company they went after her.

Whitlam sorry to hear about your car. Are you sure it's been written off? Got any pics of the damage?

Yeeh, they are a great car. Might not be the fastest going around but they just have a great all round neutral feel about them.
And as for Magna/Verada build quality in general, i don't think there is better in an Australian built car, even today.

I am sorry that I am a bit confused about your driveway description but how did this uninsured driver turn right into driveway unless you happened to drive past the said driveway and he t-boned you?

yes the car turned into a driveway obviously without checking that anyone else was driving past..

I have to say, i have only driven a Toyota Avalon for some length of time and it was terrible.
Had so many rattles in it. By the end of 3 weeks, i had bits of cardboard poaking out everywhere in the dash in every crack i could find to stop rattles.
And as for a car, it was like driving somethoing out of the 70's. Handeled terrible, and the interior was typical Toyota. Not designed for pleasure/good looks.

You must have got the only friday built one then!,the majority are excellent, like most toyota`s bulit before 2000,they have gone slighly downhill from then on,but no worse than the other big three locals, and they may not be pretty, but they are practical and robust!,id take a Avalon Grande in a heartbeat for a daily, but we digress!

Was it a rental or loan car? If yes then it was most likely abused by previous drivers.

Then either he was a drink driver or he must be thinking about his missus inside :naughty: to notice you the house the said driveway was on

that is what happened - he didn't see me or the cars behind and in front of me. He rang me 2 days later trying to say it was all my fault - but later admitted to the Insurance company that he was 100% to blame.

Fair enough! Some parts are getting hard to find. I can see a time when a lot of magnas will be junked because the bits to keep them on the road just aren't available at wreckers or Mitsu dealers.
