hey guys
i just bought my new head unit the alpine CDA-9884E
i installed it by cutting into existing wire from the stock harnes and then soldering the new harness to that, everything works besides two things...
the antenna does not come out at all on any setting
and the head unit does not recieve power when the car is off so every time i turn the car off i loose all my radio setting and sound settings.....
its realy anoying and could you please help me out and mayeb tell me about the wires and what goes where where....
i have a 2002 KJ verada
thanks, tony
For the antenna you need to connect the antenna wire to the ant. out on the headunit loom. (Pink wire from car from memory).
As for the power issue, just connect the battery 12v on the headunit loom to the constant 12v wire from the car. (I "think" its blue with red stripe from memory but don't quote me on it.

As above, use a test light / multimeter to find 12V constant which is the yellow wire on your new harness to whatever is the existing 12V. Then make sure your red acc wires is hooked up correctly to the existing wire.
Alpine use 2 remote turn on wires which are both blue out of the Alpine harness. One is to turn on the amps and the other is to power the aerial ( 90% sure this is the one with the blue strip ). If you are not sure which is the aerail wire, it runs in a black protective case down the middle of the car. If you lift up the console around your gear stick / lever you will see it. :D

If you are losing your radio memory etc, then you definitely don't have the "constant 12v" (sometimes referred to as "battery 12v") hooked up right.
In TJ's the factory loom has Battery wire coming thru Fuse #9 to radio as a Red/Black wire. A common "aftermarket" colour is Yellow for "constant 12v".
The factory loom has the "Switched 12v" or "Accessory 12v" wire as a Blue wire - with the common aftermarket corresponding colour being Red.
Factory wire for power antenna is PINK, the common aftermarket colour-code would be BLUE, see previous posts about this brand using blue for both antenna trigger and amp remote trigger.
Good luck. (I kinda feel your pain - been hacking a TS dash to fit much-bulkier aftermarket 4" speakers in next-to-no-room, then adapting wiring from TS into a more-modern Mitsi HU from the Clearance Warehouse. Finally got it done well after dark this evening. Still to fit rear speakers, but have the under-dash all ready to go for rears in their own plug when I run the wires).
Thought how much for that Cd-changer cable yet?? No hassles.

There seem to be 2 "styles" of power-antenna - my KJ has a great big square-ish thing with multiple wires going to it (think it is capable of half-height mast setting, tho my HU doesn't support this). Benefit of this beast is that the "mast and rope" can be replaced, either OEM part, or aftermarket made by Aerpro.
There is a much more compact unit, with fewer wires (prob 2) - and I think spares prices are cheapest for the "TL" version. Thing is, the stainless steel mast of this cannot be substituted if you do my epic fail of using drive-in carwash with aerial UP.
Glad you worked it out.

The mast in this IS replaceable. I have done it twice in my car and in a TJ at work. I dont know the part number but it is an aerpro part.

He just said the TJ version you can and TL you can't. Didn't know of the difference myself but your pretty much agreeing with what he said in a sense lol

No read his full post above mine. he says the "2 wire" style cant be done. only the "5 wire" version can. which in incorrect.
the 2 wire version can have the mast replaced.

That's a good tip if the smaller unit does have an AERPRO relacement mast. I have one of them in the shed somewhere, which I replaced because mast didn't retract the last couple of inches - I can have a look at it later.
Does it just unspool through the top fitting like the Verada aerial?
