I drive a 99 altera 3.5L auto. Only mods i have are: king springs, k&n rampod, besides wheels, rims and brakes nothing else. Ive read about extractors and mufflers but in the 3rd gen forum, i cant get a str8 answer.
I want more power so i believe pacemakers are the go for extractors, but i am unsure of the rear muffler. I believe leaving the exhaust as is, will be fine but i need change the rear muffler for more power.... The only problem is i dont want the sound of a vrx or a lukey for that matter.... its an auto so it will drone but I do wish for more growl(not to annoy the neighbours too much tho). From what ive read, magnaflow would be the go. Any advice, i am looking to do a few more mods like piggy back ecu and then fuel regulator and fuel rails.
Thanks for any response....i just like to go faster tham commondoors and falcons

You want to go faster than commodores and falcons? Manual conversion.

my auto still can beat an xr6 ute that is a year or two newer(0-100) plus, my missus drives it most of the time cause i use a work van 90% of the time. Thanks for the tech info though...you were very helpful :)

Whats wrong with the Lukey? Have you heard it and not liked it? From what you're describing, its exactly what you want out of an exhaust - nice growl, quiet so you won't annoy your neighbours but still sporty sounding and free flowing.
TBH you're not going to gain alot of power as such from just an exhaust upgrade. Oh sure changing from the factory Tri-flow to a free flow exhaust will make it go a bit nicer, its not a huge power upgrade.
Fuel reg and fuel rails will do next to nothing on a stocko motor.
Depending on how much you want to spend, a reflashed ECU or a piggyback ECU will improve the overall "driveability" of the car but its not going to give you a heap of power if thats what you're expecting.
How much are you looking to spend?

overtime around $10-15k, but gradually. Ive been to RPW and got info, but then i have spoken to my mechanic who says alot different. E.g. i asked about more traction and better front end.... i got from one, front struts and anti-lift kit....and then from the other i was told to get a front set of koni shocks($600) for the set.....hence i am on here asking for more advice...as its hard to know who to believe and i dont want to make these mistakes if there are people out there who can tell me otherwise.

high flow rear muffler (dont matter which brand really, as long as its straightthrough), pacemaker extractors, raptor streetfighter manifold, ECU with tune. highflowd TB for some better response.
for better grip on take off, go wider tyres, and get the car lowerd with some good shocks.
this will reduce squating

Manual conversion. So short geared you nearly tag the revlimiter to hit 100 in second but she's a quick 'un. Good shocks help, I've got axle tramp everywhere these days.

if your looking at spending 10-15k get a front cut with a twin turbo in it :) tho traction will not be your friend!!

Correction, that's where the problem usually starts!
Best drop in power increase - 6A12TT from a Legnum. Upgrade the turbos and you'll be making 300kw+ at the fronts. nuff said

thats about the dumbest thing you could ever do. its not something to be proud of surely. as if you'd waste the money.

no, the problem is when people add boost, extra injectors, new plenuems etc. leave it stock and no worries.
