Hey guys, has anyone come across a ticking noise when starting there 380 when cold ,as mine has started to only since the colder weather has started.seems to be coming from around centre console gear shift area any feed back would be helpful. This only happens for about 5-10 seconds then disappears ,if I start car any time during the day it doesnt happen, only in the mornings when cold.

Mine started making a slight ticking noise at idle about a month ago.
It sounds a little like the notorious Magna valve lifter 'tick', but surely not after only 34,000 km in a well maintained 380?
It's still there once the engine warms up. Not all that loud, just enough to notice it.
It sounds to me like it might be the fuel pump.
I haven't yet checked under the hood (lifter noise) or the back seat (fuel pump) in an attempt to trace it.
Anyone else have a 380 which has developed this tick?

I have the same problem which has just started up again as the mornings get colder. There was a thread on this last winter.....my car went back to Mits 3 times last winter and they still havent fixed it. They have replaced just about every part in the heater/fan mechanism but still no joy.
Someone from Victoria had the same problem and his local dealer fixed it (I think it was in Ballarat). Anyway, I even told my dealer to contact them to find out what they did but that must have been too much trouble.
If you get you fixed, can you let me know.

If it's the creaking/clicking noise that sounds like it's coming from something plastic, then I believe it is from the climate control system switching the vents around when you start the car.
I was told by a dealership there is no specific fix for it, other than to pull the dash apart and put some grease on teh parts in question. Problem is pulling the dash apart may then cause other creaks and rattles that are worse than the problem.
Mine only does it when cold, so I ignore it.

Yep Mine has the same to. Only for a few seconds or so then gone. Sounds like the aircon/fan area as it has a ticking noise. Not overly concerned, most cars aren't perfect and the Mitsu is much better than those Crapadores.

Yeah mine has developed this noise too of a cold morning, id also say is something to do with the fan area....doesnt seem to be doing any harm anyways

I think it got to do with the viscosity of the oil when cold, choose those with 0w or 5w. I don't remember hearing anything after i switch to 5w30 grade.

Funny, my experience is the opposite.
Had my 30,000k service about a month ago, provided my own oil - Penrite HPR5 5W-40 - and it's been making a slight ticking noise ever since. But the noise is the same whether the car or the engine is hot, cold or in between.
I still reckon it's the fuel pump, but I haven't investigated it yet.

does it only cold and only in the mornings,am just going to ignore at the moment and see what happens when it starts to warm up again. If this is the only prob so far then so be it.

It will stop doing it when the weather warms up. It seems the colder the mornings, the longer the rubbing noise goes for. I have tried fiddling with the heater dials before starting the car to see if that will stop the noise but nothing seems to work. I am just going to put up with it.
