Hi Guys
Replacing my front pads and rotors tonight. Have a quick question on anti squeal paste/spray.
I have never used this on previous pad changes and was wondering if maybe I should be.
Any advice?
Cheers

I changed my front pads and rotors as well a couple of weeks ago. I didn't use anti squeal, but I'm now thinking it wouldn't have hurt as I'm getting some noise. So I'd say it would be a good idea to apply some. If not see how it goes and then think about applying some if needed

brakes work on friction, that stuff stops friction happening as much...

I have tried both the paste which is applied on the back of the brake pads (as the squeel itself is caused supposedly by the pad vibrating at a high frequency) and a spray which is applied to the rotor. I didn't try them independently, but with the combined effect they only stopped the squeel for a week tops.

wrong stuff, this is the PBR or CRC goo type material they are talking about i assume, goes on the back of the pads backing plate and dampens vibrations and pad movement in the caliper, works well, alot of brake noisee is vibration of the pad etc,not the friction area per se

I tried the spray on stuff (for the rotors, not the backing pads) on the stock 380 front pads a few months ago.
Shopped around and bought the best quality gear I could find, thinking 'might as well do it right the first time'.
Sprayed just the outer sides of the rotors first, didn't help at all, still squealed like a stuck pig when cold.
Then sprayed both sides of the rotors (means taking the calipers right off), worked for a week until it rained, and then started squealing like a stuck pig again.
Both times followed the instructions about getting some heat into the rotors so that the coating bonded properly, just about made myself sick with the multiple hard stops required.
Replaced the stock pads with Bendix General CTs a month ago, bingo no more squealing.
Considering the cost of a can of the spray on stuff and the time & labour involved with applying it again & again versus new Bendix GCTs, the new pads win hands down.

yeah im a fan of the GCT's but i still use the paste on em... saves having to do a job twice if something else is resonating

I can't see how a spray on a rotor is going to do anything for any length of time as it will just wear away like the metal does.
the stuff on the back of the pads does work.

perhaps it's a case of wearing in then becuase, the breaks on all of my cars have not squeaked when they aren't new!
