Hey guys hope someone can help me here

i removed my amp and sub today just to clean the boot out and didnt touch any controls or anything. When i wired it all back up again the sub doenst have as much bass as before (my mirrors used to shake). Now does this mean ive wired it back up wrong or something :S. Its a brand new monoblock amp so it shouldnt be that.

Thanks Guys

might have wired it around the wrong way
could try swapping the wires around on the amp or where ever you removed them
did you mark the wires before removing them? some wires are marked with either a + or - on them

yeah im pretty sure i put them back correctly (then again its dark so couldnt see to well), but wouldnt that just make them out of phase not less bass? im not very experienced with this sorta stuff ( or spelling :P)

If it is out of Phase it can make a difference to Audible Bass levels...

ye dude its just a phasing issue, check your wires not only on the sub but on the amp to :D

okay so i checked it out today and the pos and neg were crossed over, now its still not going as hard as it was, have i missed something?

also what should i tune it to i have 4 controls on back of amp...boost,LP filter, HP filter and input level what should i set them as?

Did you reset the head unit? No reason why taking an amp out would change the output.

Use LP - should be set around 80Hz region (lower if your fronts can go lower too).

No bass boost (well....no more than 2dB - it boosts the signal at 50Hz...boost too much and you will clip and destroy the sub).

HP - unless you can use that aswell, dont bother. If you can - HP of around 20-25Hz.

hmmm but there dials, how will i know what there set on :S

the dials should be able to turn from one point to another, one side (usually left) will be a lower frequency, and the other side will be a higher frequency. If you have knocked these accedently when you were moving things around it could change your bass performance.

yeah i think thats what has happened but ive tried to correct it by trial and error and cant seem to make it sounds semi-decent...any suggestions?

Yep they're dials. One thing most amp manufacturer's cant seem to price into their budget is a decent marking system for the dial.

Ok all the way to the left is the lowest point for the LP. usually around 40 - 50Hz. All the way to the right is usually around 200-300hz. If you move this dial to the right, just guestimate where 70-80Hz is (I then make sure by adjusting via the deck LPF, but not all decks have this).

Now usually with most amps, you have a toggle, between 'LPF - Full - HPF' To use the LPF have it on 'LPF' on the toggle.

Next thing to check will be your 'Phase' Again, 99.99% chance is dial with only '0' and '180' marked. Make sure its furthest to the left, at '0'

Next thing will be your 'Gain' Again a dial, furthest to the left is the lowest 'gain' and furthest to your right is the highest, use your ears if you want to touch this - carefully turn it to the right (say halfway) and listen for the sub distoring, if it doest and you want more bass, bit more until you hear it distort, then back off a 'smidge'.

When tuning a sub, pick a really bassy track - not a track with soft / small bass - otherwise when you hit that 'big bass' track, you can blow your sub easily.

Oh yeah when tuning make sure you have the volume on the deck at around 75%

I just turn up the music and I don't hear it anymore, lol. Gotta love Magna's natural sound dampening, can crank the system blaringly and hardly hear it outside... hehe
