hi everyone
i have a sub box that is facing backwards in my car (sedan (magna(3rd gen))) and i have 2 questions:
1: will taking the internal partition in the box make the subs sound better?
2: will cutting the box in half have any affect? ie will 2 boxes half the size be as good as 1 box?
this is what the box is like, only mine is rounded on top. you can get them from auto barn.

Mate to be honest and pre fabricated box..no matter what you do to it will be the same. The box is surprisingly 70% of how good a sound/spl the sub is going to make. Dont worry yourself about a box like that..it sounds as good as it does. period. if you really want to reach the peak of a subs potential use a customised ported box with the right measurements. Slighty more expensive but the sound will be amazing compared to your current setup. A ported box will give a rough 3db increase in sound, which is equivalent to doubling the power. Then again it all depends on what your taste of music is. For some a sealed box like yours is the go.

wont make any difference either way.
as muzzi said, you are better off building a ported box to spec of your subs

to get an idea of ported look on youtube and check out some of the boxes people have got for subs like orion hcca's, jl13w7's or mtx thunder 9500. THe boxes all vary and some are HUGE! in the realm of 3.5cu feet (rougly 97litres) but watch the xmax(linear excursion) of the sub then and how far it protrudes!

No. In fact, when running multiple subs in the one enclosure, it's recommended to keep them partitioned separately.
2: will cutting the box in half have any affect? ie will 2 boxes half the size be as good as 1 box?
Splitting it up (assuming you could somehow keep it enclosed still) won't really achieve anything - you'd only do it if you wanted to position the subs elsewhere in the boot. Which in itself isn't worth it - if you want a good looking boot install, pre-fab boxes aren't the best idea.

Quoted again. Hit up Mobile Electronics Australia, you'll find tutorials on building your own sub box. There's also a calculator available for download which will work out the optimal size for your enclosure depending on your sub specs.

thanks guys,
i had a look on the kenwood site, and they do have some db/box size charts. they have the recomended sizes and shapes for ported and enclosed boxes.
i listed to heavy metal, so there is not so deep bass, but it is really fast. (drums etc)
should i go ported pr enclosed?
