Ok my Supercharger kit has a whimpy 5 PSI boost which is useless. I need to get a new pulley made & considering I have stock internals, how much boost should I aim for? (I do have water/methanol for intercooling)

i say go with 8 psi

How difficult/expensive are these pulleys? Would it be worth starting small and working your way up? Like jump up maybe 2 psi at a time and then see how that goes for a few months? Would give you the oppurtunity to adjust and learn through the whole process.

Not sure exactly but I'm sure it won't break the bank. I would prefer to do it once & once only after all the pissing around I've been through but would like to keep it reliable.

7psi dude!
you dont want to break it just yet, so take about 4mm off your pulley and you'll get around 7psi. What is the pulley diametre atm?

For the sake of your engine, go with 7psi please. You've seen how heartbreaking and frustrating this process can be first hand, Fooz. Don't break your engine, please!

I agree somewhere between 8-10 pound. What compression ratio are you running and what are the pistons like in the 380 ??? you are a guinea pig FOOZ. Either way you should be safe anywhere under 10 pound.

10psi on a supercharger will melt the pistons without any trouble.

max 8 to start of with. if you decide to go higher open up the moter.

I haven't measured it coz it's still at the tuners but Sprintex say it has a 76mm pulley stock, so I calculated it out to 68mm for 7PSI & 65mm for 8PSI which I'm guessing will be the optimal for my engine. Still wanted to see what everyone else thinks but.

You may be right Im no expert, I once owned a toyota trueno 1600cc supercharged engine (4agze) I upgraded the pulley to a 12 pound pulley without any trouble, but this engine had low compression and forged pistons. I repeat im no expert.

7 psi is my bet, BUT you may be lucky with upto 9psi with the water/ meth spray...

I voted for 10 because its not my engine :)

This is an EXCELLENT vote.
I also say 10psi. This is what I am aiming for also. They guys that have given me the quote for the SC have said they can push 10 with "some"(their words) internal mods.

8psi with WI, 7psi without

Some being rods and pistons with a bored and honed block, sure. Got a spare $7k?

I think you may be on the money, I was thinking 7 for safety but with water/methanol helping cool everything down 8 should be ok. 10 or 12 would be nice but as Disciple says I would need stronger rods & forged pistons.

My tuner said something similar when i spoke to him about running WI. He said WI would just make it more reliable and cut out a lot of the heatsoak and he would not recommend running a lot more boost with it unless you went forged.

OVER 9000!!!!!
I think 8 sounds right.

A solid 6-7psi at 5500rpm would be the absolute max I would be testing it at

my vote is for 7. 8 if you're feeling very adventurous
youre doing it to get a fast car, so you need some boost to make it worth the $$$ but not enough boost to cost you more!!
are there any supercharged 9th gens over in the US? what are the pistons like on those?

I'm not aware of any 9G's that have been supercharged in the US although there are a couple of 4G Eclipses. From what I heard/read, with the Mivec 3.8 they're getting some awesome figures & there doesn't seem to be any mention of changing internals so I'm guessing the Mivec 3.8 may have stronger pistons & rods.
As for my boost level to tell you the truth I have no idea how you work it out. I have used the Sprintex calculator & with my pulley ratio it says I should have 9 PSI boost, TMR say 6.5 PSI & Sprintex say 5 PSI. So far mine has only got 3 PSI although I expect that to be at least 5 once I get it back & refit it.
I have my doubts if the TMR380 was ever run on an engine dyno also as the 230KW figure is what you get out of the calculator if you plug in 6.5PSI boost. Everyone has a different story & everyone ducks for cover when you ask too many questions.
As for 230KW at the wheels which has been bantered around by TMR & Sprintex on a modded 380, I now highly doubt that too with stock boost & no more mods than I have. For this mystery car to need heavier valve springs it must be running a lot more than the stock boost & the figures may have been slightly inflated, just like "the one that got away". Until I see some dyno charts I will reserve my judgement & will just get the best from mine with the boost I choose & enjoy it for what it is.
