Hey guys was wiring up some neons the other day to my boot light and noticed that when the boots closed its still getting power give the LED little power. I also noticed that my dome light does that same thing. I was under the impresion that once the car is closed and locked the roof light should be off, it still gets 9v :S

have i got a electric problem ive checked the door switchs and replaced one (front pass)
Are these problems conected?

cheers guys

Yur dome light gets 12V all the time and gets its earth through the door switch to turn it on.

I assume the 3rd gens are wired up like most cars.

You should see 12V tho not 9. Either you have a bad connection somewhere or the earth you are using to measure the voltage aint that good.

Or your meter sucks.

I think what Callum is saying is when the lights should be off he's still getting 9V.
I'd suspect the door switches. They may be dirty enough internally to allow a current leakage through them.
Try getting a can of electrical contact cleaner and flushing them out.

with ure boot light if uve just tapped into the positive for the boot light and gone to any old earth there lies ure problem.... the switch earths out the circut completing it and turning on the light u must wire it in in series (ie cut the the wire from the switch to the globe and insert ure neon in between) to ensure it turns on and off with the boot light.

if your interior/boot light globes have been replaced with LED's then they will come on dull with the doors closed... tis something to do with the BEM circuitry
and i would consider it a feature of LED interior lights
basically it wont light up a 10W globe but it will create a soft glow on a 0.1W LED

Mine do it as well, but i kinda like it...mood lighting :)

hope it helps... if that was your query

with the boot light i put both pos and neg into the clip and the LED was getting i think 4volts which made it very dim but noticeble

and Avatar, thats exatly what my problem is i got one of those inside LEDs and it was very dim at times i put an old globe back intoday and it works fine, whats BEM? and what does it do, never heard of it before

BEM = Body Electronics Module..... controls your lights, CDL, Alarm, etc
the door switches earth out and the BEM switches on your interior light
an untried solution would be to fit a relay to the light output so that it earths the dome light when the doors open
but as i say i havent tried it and the relay may even have to be 24V
we could tee up some time to nut it out
