hi all,
Advance apologies if am sending this thread in the wrong forum (New to this site!)
I got a 1999 Magna TH, and my door lock been playing up. Every time I open and close the door, specially the drivers, the central locking automatically open and close few times, and eventually ends up on lock position! So in order to get out, I have to press and hold down the switch in unlock position, let it try few times to lock, until it eventually gives up and lets me out!!!
It use to happen randomly a while back, but over last few week it has become a constant thing. I thought it could be due to remote, but removing the battery didn’t change anything.
Any ideas would be much appreciated!
Cheers

dads pajero did this once, suspected some water had got into it somehow.

yep you are in the wrong section...
and to do with the central locking.. it sounds like you have some dogey wiring as it isnt sensing that the door is unlocked... just just go around and makesure that all the plugs are clean/rust free and give em a good wiggle when you put em back in..

Another reason.
Had self same issue on a KS.
Inside each solenoid assy there is a lever that swings from side to side.
The lever switches the power as required.
In the housing there are a couple of buffers that act as stops for the lever.
If one of these buffers fall off or wear out, the lever can overtravel. This causes the lock machanism to keep cycling on anf off.
I would suspect the drivers door mechanism first.
One way to work out which one is to open up each door in turn, then disconnect the solenoid in the door.
Use the central locking. When operation returns to normal then you at least know which solenoid assembly is to blame.
The housing then an be pried apart, I just glued some hard rubber to replace the piece that had fallen off and had become a bit sticky.

Hi hoha,
I had exactly the same issue earlier this year. I have a 99TH Magna wagon. I was lucky enough to pick up a full set of actuators from ebay for $45. An auto elec said it would be the boot actuator that had gone because it would get the most banging, but was the driver's door. When you think about it, the magna two step opening means the driver's door gets unlocked more than the others. It was really easy to replace. The issue will be locating which door is playing up. I was lucky and got it second try.
First step is to unplug the actuator and try and lock it. If the problem stops, then you should have the right door.
At first my problem was intermittent. It seemed to do it after rain. I sprayed everything with CRC. By January it was constant and that made it easy to find the fault.
Hope this helps.

hey,
Thanks for replies. Few questions! If its water, where might the water be in the mechanism?
Also, spud, am a bit lost. How do i get to this solenoid? my guess to remove the door cover, remove the locking mechanism which has a the lever attached, and then open that up?

I cant really help with the problem.... but I know my car is a bit of a freak too. Every now and then it will just lock itself. Its never unlocked itself before, but it somehow manages to lock itself -Usually while I am standing around my car doing something. I have a feeling it has something to do with the remote, although its hard to test this theory as it only happens every now and then...
Edit: Just read another thread on autolocking..... Seems my car is normal... :( Awesome feature though! :D

Thanks again,
Yarrum, whats the easiest way to disconnect actuator, since i have never seen the inside section of the door, is it just a plug connected to the locking mechanism?

HoHa,
Yes, unfortunately you have to open up each door in turn.
Easy if you know how.
Work round the door and take all the screws out, there is one hidden in the arm rest, another is in the demist vent on the front edge of the door., there is another hidden in the centre of the door release lever housing.
Then bring the window down.
Use a broad blade blunt knife. Push between the door trim and the metal. Move round until you hit an obstruction - this will be a retaining plastic clip.
Just then use the knife to gently pull the trim clip out of the metal.
There are a couple on the rear edge of the door, and several along the bottom edge.
If you have power windows, lift the switch bezel out and disconnect.
The door trim should now flap in the breeze, but will still be fixed where the window glass is.
Just push the trim up and it will come out from the glass channel.
Carefull peel the plastic sheet away from the top rear corner, you will then be able to see the door lock actuator. Trace the wiring back to the connector.

My 99 Verada is doing this very thing.. And here I was thinking I had escaped all the problems I had with my falcon hahahahaha.
Looks like I'll be removing the door trims to find the culprit :)
