I am looking at getting the Jaycar Response 6 inch 2- way splits just to give my System a little bit more of a Lift..
If anyone can suggest a Set of Fronts below $100 price point would be appreciated...

Not sure thats why I am asking if any AMC members have used them before...
I just need a set of speakers that will increase the clarity over my stock ones...

if you are looking for speaker to just increase the clarity better tha the stock ones then go for it mate
there not a great speaker but they will do fine for an entry level speaker
factory speakers are normaly just crappy paper things so anything that is purpsoe built and designed will sound better
go for it mate
if you have a jb-hi near you go have a look ther
they have great speakers and you get realy good deals
i got $200 slashed off my 6x9's because they were the last set till next shipment but all the others they would go down as far as $120 off the price

Unless you get 2nd hand splits I doubt highly you'll get better than the Jaycars.

I know theres a guy in Vic selling a set of these JL's for not much more than $100. as an example of what you can get 2nd hand.

$300 for 6x9's. Dam, would only consider the Vibe set which actually have a subwoofer motor at that price or the DLS with 12db/oct xovers.
They have the ribbon set on special for $199 I think at the moment, could be worth a look as you know your front stage is more important.

lol you paid almost $300 for pioneers? Yeah screw that. I got my JBL 6x9's for just over $130 and they crap on just about anything else in that price range.

Jaycar speakers are pretty damn good. But I would consider 2nd hand aswell as Lugo mentioned

You will notice something very different about them when you load it up... wont fit in the normal parcel shelf. :D
40oz magnet, 12db/ oct xover, 200WRMS and they will really play down to 40Hz without sounding like a fart.

Im not really looking to upgrade my hertz 6x9's yet, but these vibe ones look awesome! :D

Fhrx sells them, even some decent Autobarns have them for sale as well. With the exchange rate being crap they cost a bit more than they used to.. just like Hertz / Audison etc.

I really dislike 6x9's, but IF I had to have some, they should at least sound ok and look good. Decent 4inch splits are a better idea for the parcel shelf if you run a sub.

I run 2 subs with 6 1/2" 2 ways on rear deck, hehe.

magnat

Nah I am Planing on Using Direct drop ins... nothing that require mods...
I carry rear passengers so I need something thats a Direct drop in on the rear deck But I like my Clarity OVER my Out right volume..

The Plans are :
6.5 or 6inch Splits
2-way 6x9's Both sets powered off the deck..
and a 12 inch Ported Sub in the rear...

I think 4 inch will be too small with the air from the sub may cause some additional Excursion thats why I am thinking 2-way 6x9...

I already have the Sub and Amp and wiring kit.. Just need to find a set of fronts to liven up the front end.. at the moment the stock front speakers are doing great at playing pure muddy midrange...
and the stock 6x9s (which do have better tonal quality) have better punch but no low end...

So I am looking at entry Level Splits, with Entry level 2-way 6x9's... This system is not going to be comp spec... Just better then stock..

All good Magnat.

Vibe speakers where mentioned for price bracket of $300 .. a little off the topic :D:D

But yeah I would look at perhaps $200 for the fronts and $100 for the 6x9's.
In that bracket you are looking at splits from Hertz / Boston / Blaupunkt etc

Why not just run a 4 channel amp and power front and sub

I just need a set up that will be full range.. Not full ball...
Besides, the head unit gets plenty loud before distortion..

Well, I had some fronts sounding a bit 'shot' in the TJ Sports and went off to Jaycar after reading good reports in here.

Explained my (very basic) requirements to the guy at Jaycar, and he suggested that Jaycar Response (about $150- for 6" or 6.5" front splits) were really overkill for me, he suggested Jaycar Venom - a cheaper range - for about $80 or $90.

While at Jaycar, they had some 6x9's in a "clearout" pile - so I got 2 sets of them as well - $20- I could hardly say no! Have them in the parcel shelf of TJ and KJ and they are fine. Interestingly, my KJ (8-spkr audio) had 2-way 6x9's in parcel shelf and my TJ Sports (6-spkr audio) only had dual-cone 6x9's - so just about ANYTHING after-market would be an improvement on that, I'd have thought.

I just use OEM HU's - like the way they look stock in dash - and have no amps or sikkk subzzz.

The Jaycar speakers are perfectly fine for me, cage etc seemed well-made - wiring terminals were a bit light-weight would be my only comment - be careful connecting them and don't plan on constant connect/disconnect/reconnect much at all. I actually broke the wiring terminal on one speaker - I forget if it was the fronts or a 6x9 - was able to solder/repair thankfully.

I used the Jaycar wiring to make short "jumper" cables between the car loom plug and the speaker - cut a few inches from the speaker terminals end of cable and then crimp spade lugs to attach to car plug. Would be an excellent idea to solder the crimp spades on, but think I may not have done that - one of my CBF moments. Going well so far.

Only comment, the Jaycar "Venom" splits had really stoopid bulky cross-overs with chrome covers - I didn't use them in the end (long story) but they were apparently made to look "roool hekitk bro" - if these fit inderneath your door trim would be by far the best way to deal with them!!

I have been waiting for a member to give me an Honest review of them right down to how you used them..
I am still not sure what I want but at least you have given me an insight..

Ahh, so it WAS an AMC member who came in and grabded those, I'd wondered... hehe. Shame I didn't ask what they were going in, would've had a chat. :)

That is, if they were purchased in SA.... :S... if not, more than one store had them on clearance.... lol

lol, bugga. Hoping I coulda made a new AMC friend, lol. Oh well. And yes, I too use Response sound gear, Precision Kevlar series but haven't been commenting much as, since I work for Jaycar, it could be seen as a biased opinion. :silenced:

Elwyn

Well, am happy to be friendly anyway! Working for Jaycar = not a problem in giving an opinion (or so I reckon), but just state that you work there! let folks make their own minds about bias.

Sounds like you are spending a fair bit more than I on sound gear - as many members in here do.
Most of my motoring is done on a budget, and my cars do lots country driving including a bit of dirt roads. To me, there is no point chasing ultimate sound quality when its a job to hear the music over the crashing/banging/sqeaks and rattles - not bagging Magna's, but dirt roads are very noisy in dad's Exec and my TJ Sports. The insulation on firewall etc looks first-class, so must be hell to drive these cars with that removed!! KJ Rada is much quieter, dunno what they have done to achieve that result.

I guess sound sound-deaden matting in boot and doors would help me - but GAAHH! it looks like hell fitting that stuff - Kudos to you young blokes that dynamatt the daylights outta your rides, gotta hand it to you.

Back on-topic, word seems to be that Jaycar car-audio is pretty-good "bang for buck".

Bluey7
07-06-2009, 10:25 AM
Yeah, a little bit of cash spent on sound, still not exactly where I want it yet, need to re-do boot install and eliminate a few rattles, lol. And agree about road noise in Magnas, try driving without back seat, boot lining and half of dash missing, sounds horrible, lol

It's funny, I hear people say this yet I've never had an issue with it, personally. I've had the same system through 2 cars now and it's never given me any problems. Well, I lie, did give me one but that was my own fault, earth line wasn't heavy enough initially and broke down over time (either that or there was a dodgy connection, never really looked at that come to think of it... lol), not the fault of the system.

my jaycar amp has outlived my alpine monoblock..

if you go to the mobile electronics website jaycar is recommended over anything else on a budget.. and there are many people who share a great opinion of it..

I have been using jaycar amps and 6" splits, and never had any issues. They sound good enough for me. Many people including JayCar bag them, but I dunno why. They play sound at an acceptable quality for me.

+1 to jaycar

We bought an older black 2x 150WRMS amp about 4 years ago. Has been responsable for:
Boston 12.5lf
Boston G5
Sony 6x9's ( yeah )
Cadence UD12
Boston S60
and finally now drives the Jaycar splits with ribbon tweeters.

It has been dropped, it scratched and abused and still works a treat. So overall I am very happy with them.

yup i like response gear. Its straight up and honest. Have 6x9 for fill and jay-car d-class amp on the way for 2 polk 10's. Splits as good as entry level MB Quart Polk ect. In my humble opinion.

I am really into the higher end of car audio and still Jaycar is a name that constantly pops up time after time with nothing but positive feedback. Jaycar's splits are excellent value for money and they have a nice sound to them, if i couldn't afford $400 for a Set of Focal, Boston, Moral, Polk, or Hertz split i would most probally settle with some Jaycar splits. Also they are known be great value for money, and nice sounding amplifiers.
