Are the ignition coils the same on a tp carbie and a tp efi? i need to move my dads tp carbie off my property but it wont start due to a faulty coil. i have a running efi tp at my parent house and dont know whether they are compatiable

what would be the symptoms/ identifying of a wrong coil?
My current TP had the efi engine replaced with a factory long block and ultratune installed a carby. runs like **** atm. though probably just carby problems.

The following info is from the Haynes 85-91 Magna manual:
Ignition coil resistance readings for carburetted models- Primary resistance (measured across the + and - primary coil terminals with engine and ignition turned off, battery disconnected) = 0.76-0.84 ohms,
Secondary resistance (measured across the + coil terminal and the high tension terminal with engine and ignition turned off, battery disconnected)= 4.5-6.9 K ohms
Ignition coil resistance for EFI models- Primary resistance (measured across the + and - primary coil terminals with engine and ignition turned off, battery disconnected)= 0.72-0.88 ohms,
Secondary resistance (measured across the + coil terminal and the high tension terminal with engine and ignition turned off, battery disconnected)= 10.2-13.8 K ohms
Haynes recommend renewing the coil unit if they fail to meet the above readings.
Physical differences between a coil on a carby model Vs EFI model: The carby model coil has a round aluminium body approx 5cm dia x 10cm long and is oil filled to assist in dissipating heat.
The EFI coil has a moulded plastic body with the power connectors at the opposite end to the high tension lead.
Note: If you leave your ignition turned on for a couple of minutes without the engine running the coils will overheat so look for oil leaks / bulged aluminium housings or bulged / discoloured plastic housings.
Cheers

definately different as you would have probably worked out by now.
Might have a spare carby coil if you want it... have to check to make sure.

If look in a Bosch parts catologue you will see that they dont make the the old cylinder type coils anymore.
All HEI ignition Sigma'a and Carby Magna's now use a resin core coil. MEC717
