Need a new sound system for my ***new***(First Car) 1998 TH Advantage
Would rather keep the cost below a grand,,,
And utilize the front speaker ports,,,
Any advise would be great on brands and size!

As far as I know, my DNA is double-helix, cos I can't work out what is going on in this thread.
Dad pays 80bukz to add iPod cable to a BMW, so this affects the TH...... how?
But TH has an iPod cable - so do we deduce that you are not looking to add/change any HU? As to change HU would render useless the iPod cable you apparently have??
You are just wanting to spend up to $1000- on amps and speakers?
Is this anything like a correct translation of your posts?
I'd suggest spending a small amount of your budget on an "attention span" before posting up requests for ideas, or information, or opinions from Forum members. Some more detail of your HU might be in-order, then audio-savvy members may know or find-out its capabilities in terms of audio outputs - which directly influences what gear can possibly be added to it.

Are you trying to say that you wish to retain the stock headunit while upgrading the speakers and connecting an iPod?
If so, I wouldn't bother - your first port of call should be a new headunit. The stock headunits have pretty basic functionality compared to aftermarket models. Sound quality is lacking too - most people notice an improvement in sound quality when ditching the stock HU for an aftermarkt model. And there's no way you could control your iPod through the stock headunits - iPods weren't even made back then :)
If you're upgrading your stereo, the only real reason why you'd consider keeping the stock headunit is if it was integrated into the car. Magnas aren't, so you're fine there. And even then, there's usually ways around - it's common on BA/BF Falcons to install a headunit in the tissue box slot below the ICC.
If you want a complete deck-out for a grand, I'd look at spending the following on each components. I don't have any real recommendations (I'm out of the loop a bit), but there's not going to be a whole bunch of difference for the price.
New headunit - $250
Front splits $200
Response 4x50 Amp $200
Sub $200
Wiring/Misc $100
Won't be flash, but it'd be a solid improvement over stock.
When buying a new headunit, see if it comes with an iPod cable, or at least check the price of aftermarket ones. The iPod adapter for my headunit is around $200 :(

Slow down, take a deep breath and try again? Commas are not substitutes for full stops either.

Yep, don't buy either.
Hunt around for some good second hand gear and ask for advise in the audio section, you will end up with a much better system.

Sony car audio gear isn't that good. A headunit+speaker package for $200 isn't exactly going to be high quality - even if you're going for a cheap-as-possible stereo build, I'd be trying to spend around $150 just on the front splits. And how are you planning on running the sub - have you already got an amp?
Most advertised car audio gear is pretty crappy - it's designed to appeal for people who think more watts = better quality. If you want the best bang-for-your buck, have a dig around the Car Audio subsection first.
Oh, and by the way, why are you making a deal about iPod connectivity when the Sony headunit you plan on buying doesn't even have an iPod connector?

Have a read through the Audio forum, and possibly Members Machines where folks have audio mods listed at top of their thread.
I'm actually a bit "low brow" with car audio - I much prefer the looks of the standard stereos as fitted by Mitsubishi, cos they blend into the dash, where lots of after-market ones pokme out a bit and look "tacked on" to me. I have just today finished "matching" my cars - now have KJ radio-cassette HU's and in-dash 6-CD stacker in both cars, as well as the same Parrot bluetooth car kit fitted in both cars. I want the cassette HU so I can use a cassette adaptor for IPod - don't like FM transmitters and got lots of noise in one car using a patch-lead to Aux socket, cos I always charge the IPOD in the car and got "ground loop" feedback noise.
Aftermarket HU's are feature rich and up-to-date, play MP3 discs, have USB or memory card inputs etc etc. Apparently DIGITAL radio is the next big thing to hit Oz - whether this will skyrocket or belly-flop is anyone's guess. You MAY wish to wait until some HU's appear that do the digital radio, or else make sure anything NON-digital is bought for cheap cos its now old-hat. Google a few car audio sites, those that focus on Sound Quality (SQ)..... try to educate yourself about what is required to have subwoofers and extra amps etc. Again, subs and amps is not really my kind of audio.
Members here have lots knowledge and are helpful, but try to SEARCH for info too, esp if your question is one which you think may be commonplace. Recent threads I have read about audio have had advice to consider used equipment from premium brands. Also, next few weeks will be full-on with End Financial Year sales - no need to jump-in quickly, car audio is a never-ending discount/bargain marketing frenzy anyway!!
Congrats on your Magna, hope you have fun with it and end-up with the audio set-up you want in there!!
