put an auto tint mirror from a 2nd gen diamante in my 3rd gen. its awesome just hooked it to my interior light, and left the light that illuminates the on/off/auto unconnected as it has to run to a light circut to turn on with the headlights, and i didnt worry as the words are easy to see. the small light for selection lights up. it turns a cool blueish colour at night and a bronze colour during the day as far as i know as it was bronze when i got it and turned blue after i hooked it up tonight. doesnt look quite right in the photos but is great, matches better than the photos make out.

IIRC it will adjust on-the-fly depending on how much light is shining at it from behind

ah i see, awesome, so will it turn bronze again during the day or was that because it was unpowered?? is it normally blue and changes shades?? cheers

Unpowered it will return to normal, and if you leave it on 'auto', during the day it should also be normal.

My point was that when it's nighttime and someone is shining lights into it from behind, it should dim proportionately to the amount of light shining into it from behind.

Just curious, how did you mount it?

when i replaced my headliner i noticed the roof still had the mounting holes for the standard rear view mirror, so it screwed strait up, no hassle. the holes on the second gen plate were smaller than the third gen screws, but the soft alloy was easy to widen. i just ran a wire down the pillar to the cigi lighter so it runs on acc. mint!!! i have the sei diamante, which has all the extras, but i wanted the cool mirror!! oh there are three diamante second gens at pick a part with wood grain consoles and chrome front grill etc.

The ones in 3rd gen veradas are a blueiesh greenish tint when they darken and have no colour when it is daytime.

is a light bronze during the day and goes to cool blue at night, and darkens if a car is behind me shining on the mirror. on bad side effect was the mount for the old mirror was left glued on the window and a few hours after i took the old mirror off, this mount fell off and took a chunk of glass with it!! now a 5 inch crack has appeared so i have to get a new windscreen fitted tommorow!, it did need one as the current one is pitted and scratched.

Actually, it goes from clear to green then to almost monotone (greyscale).

All you need now is to find the auto dimming drivers wing mirror. It is controlled by the main mirror.

id say it would have the mounting plate and holes under the headliner of your car, remove your interior light and look underneth at the front.

Out KH have a similar thing, just as an FYI, the junction box insude the car, you have a pin in the interior light loom for this to plug into and operate correctly, the factory harness also has the plug hanging off it for the door mirror.

hey, do you mean in the interior fuse box for the connecter?? i looked at fuses and there doesnt seem to be one for the interior light. theres the black box with fuses attached and all the plugs run to that. how would i know which plug runs to interior lights? Cheers!!

I did not say the fuse, there is a connector at the top corner of the junction box that has a set of wires that go up into the pillar. If you are able to get the proper third gen harness for the auto mirror, the junction box already has the required pins for this loom to just plug in.

I have done this in my 98 TF which did not even come with that option in the Verada, still was plug it in and go.

ah i see ill have to get the loom from the car i got it off, if it is similar (2nd gen diamante) or ill try find a 3rd gen with this mirror and loom. i know my car doesnt currently have it as there where no extra wires in the roof or running up the pillar. thanks for the help. its not nuch of an issue as i have spliced it into the cigarette lighter (me or my wife dont smoke, the ashtrays never been used) and its working perfectly.

Did you need to fit some sensor on the dash to measure light intensity? If it simply involves fiddling with the mirror and wiring, i'm gonna find me one of them mirrors. Does the driver exterior mirror simply connect to the interior mirror or does the outised mirror have independent light intensity measuring circuitry? I do a lot of night time driving and have even been thinking of getting tinting done to cut down on glare.

yes it has a sensor front of mirror and on back to measure outside light levels and if there is light hitting it from a car behind. it works perfectly, at dusk it will stay bronze coloured until a car behind has lights on, then it turns a cool blue colour. instead of only able to see the lights of a car behind, i can now make out the colour and make. great addition, well worth it.
