View Full Version : Speed alarm not working! :(

Ok, So I put in my wiring for my power window installation a few days ago. I drove to work last night and noticed a few things werent working.
1. My speed alarm LCD thing has nothing on it, just a backlight. The up/down buttons for it on the plastic speedo had a very dim light (not as bright as usual).
2. My car did not beep at me this morning when I left my lights on when I got out of the car (With the keys in my hand)
So now I am wondering if I have accidently knocked some wires out while I was under the dash. Does anybody know which connectors could cause these problems? I know I disconnected a module thingo of some kind form behind the glove box (The thing infront of where the door gromet goes in, it has like a long black plug which loads of wires which plug in) I reconnected this after I was finished, but I never disconnected the battery.
The speed alarm has also been reseting back to 60km/h randomly (few times a week) for around 12 months now, so this may have been the loose plug that I have now completely knocked out... I dunno...
Any suggestions would be great!

i would just retrace your steps mate and recheck over anything
could also be a fuse
how olds the battery, sometimes when the speed alarm resets its from the ECU loosing its memory, 60k's is the default setting

Well I did notice the car was idling/running a little rough when I drove to work (Exhaust sounded better actually!..), but it feels back to normal now.... but yeah I might have blown a fuse.
The reseting of the speed alarm couldnt be from a dodgy battery as my battery was replaced around 2 months ago, and has still been happening.
Anyway, I'll check the fuses and wires tommorrow! :) Thanks guys

So was yours just 1 fuse? Coz my central locking still works and the car still starts fine (apart from idling/running a bit rough), but the other problems are the same.... do I need to replace the fuse?
So its a yellow box? Im pretty sure my fuse box in the engine bay is black? I dont quite understand what you mean by the bit in bold, but I'll check it out tommorrow and maybe it will make more sense then...

yeah i lost central locking aswel, i was told to look in the yellow fuse holder in the black fuse box under the bonnet, it was a 15amp fuse that had gone.
i havent started my car again wait til 2mora
if u have the yellow thing theres two fuses in it, and to remove them u have to pull this yellow box up with some force
if u have a look in Techtalk i started a thread about it this arvo.

Ahh ok yeah I was reading that thread earlier today! lol I didnt suspect it to be the same problem as mine though! Anyway, cheers for the help! Lets hope a fuse is blown and can be easily fixed!
So you havent started your car since you replaced the fuse? How do you know that only 1 fuse had blown? Coz my car still starts, and central locking is fine, which makes me think that either the fuse that blew in my car was different to yours, or you blew more than 1 fuse. You might want to just go and make sure that it does start (You can always kill it straight away), I remember reading that you have an exam tommorrow? You wouldnt want the car to not start tommorrow morning!!..... that would suck big time!

Looks like I have blown the same fuse as you did! (the 15amp one in the yellow thing). So I will have to go and buy another fuse from somewhere.. Hmm... The fuses seem to be rather mini, do you think places like
Supercheap would sell these small ones? Although I'm guessing you had spare coz u replaced urs very quickly!
Edit: nvm, I found the spare 15amp fuse (in the inside fuse box). Now to reset the ecu...

There are spares in your inside fuse box, they are on the bottom row.
TO get the little bugger out, you need to lift the yellow surround up to release the fuse.
Should be all good them

Thanks guys! I realised I had spares straight after I had posted that lol.
Well, I thought I had fixed everything, was just about to leave my car when I thought I betta check to see if my alarm beeps at me for leaving my headlights on.....It didnt. So I went and checked the fuse box and turns out the no7 fuse was also blown! But because they were both 15amp, I only had 1 spare, so looks like I will be going to buy some more fuses anyway! So I will prob go down to supercheap sometime and get that pack of 5! (But I wont til im actually in town doing something, its not like I really need the fuse any time soon...)
Everything else is working good now that I replaced the fuse in the yellow thing!, speed alarm and roof light both back to normal! I forgot to check the boot light, but I dont really care about that one anyway.... I will just have to see if my speedo resets now coz I dont think that problem was related to the fuses, but we'll see!

Finally got round to buying some fuses today, only to find that even though I replaced the headlight beeper fuse, the beeper still didnt work. But I think the problem is fixed anyway. See, the new loom I put in my car for the PW hasnt got the correct wiring for the drivers door switch. So basically the car thinks the door is always closed. Which means. a) The headlight alarm wont go off If I forget to turn the headlights off, B) The car now locks when the drivers door is open when it shouldnt, C) The courtesy light obviously isnt going to come on when I get my pw stuff installed and D) The car autolocks itself coz I click the unlock button to get into the car, but as it thinks the door is still closed, 30 seconds later all my doors locks... hmm
Im gonna try and figure out why its not working tommorrow. My Old door loom has two wires going to a blue plug which plugs up under the dash (These are the wires I believe for the switch) and I remember wondering why the new loom only had 1 wire going to the plug. So I'll trace the wires back in the new loom and hopefully can fix things! :D
EDIT: FIXED! I was obiously half asleep when I was installing the floor loom coz I forgot to pug in the connecter into the door switch! So 5 minutes later, everything is back to normal! Even the courtesy lights are working now??! I dont know why the left hand side door courtesy light is connected to the rhs open door switch, but the LHS door courtesy light finally works! :D
