Hi, I'm told my P/S belt is worn and will need to be replaced. I have a 3 L TF Magna. Does anyone know the approximate cost of having a mechanic do this for me? Or could I do it myself? I had a look today and there doesn't appear to be a lot of room to work in.

So I guess if it only costs a couple hundred I'll just get a mechanic to do it but if it's more than that I might have a stab at it myself if it's not too hard. What do you guys think?

easy to do yourself mate, but you need to make sure you tension it up correctly

Despite being a bit cramped to work on, its a simple DIY job.

Get a workshop manual (pdfs linked from these forums, or a Gregory's or Haynes book version) as these will give you step by step instructions and tell you how to tighten the belt correctly. Check prices of the actual belt from Misti Spares and Auto Parts shops - should be easy enough - and find the rough cost of the belt itself.

I'd say DIY and save the labour cost. It should only be maybe 1/2 hour for mechanic to do the belt.
