TS - 2.6 EFI - Auto

Son went for a long trip last week, got about 150/70 k's away & stopped to eat, car had been going fine.
After a break of about 20min, jumped back in, started fine. But when he went to reverse out, it stalled - restarted twice more before he could get out of the park spot, stuck it in drive & it stalled again, then drove fine for the rest of the trip.
Later that night (after a couple of hr's rest), it stalled again once, while in reverse.

Been running fine ever since until today.

Today, I was in car giving #2 son driving lessons, practising reversing & reversing into parking spots, stalled twice.
Checked the revs & it was only at 400-500, didn't matter if it was in gear or neutral/park. Gave it a couple of good (not hard) revs & it just kept dropping back to the 400-500. Got son to drive off & we just drove 'round for about 3/4 hrs, everything was fine.
Pulled up @ the shops, it was idleing @ 2100, just would'nt drop down :(

This car was ours till just before Xmas, always serviced (by Mitsie)

Any thoughts please?

ISC playing up would be my first guess. (Idle Speed Controller)

lol @ '#2 son' hehehe

ANYWAY-

Mate I'd suggest having a look at the ISC and TPS. I'm more leaning to ISC because it's working then not working then working. Mine used to do this...

EDIT; Luho beat me to it...

Thanks guys :)

After much searching for ISC and TPS, I've come across [url=http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31580&highlight=guide]Madmagna's "Cleaning a Throttle Body" (excellent :) ). Only trouble is, not sure exactly where the ISC and TPS are :(
Someone point me in the right direction please - though pics would be better :D

Right above the thermostat housing or the end of the fuel rail, is the TPS. It goes into the side of the throttle body, is round and black with 2 screws holding it in, the holes for the screws are elongated so you can adjust it. To adjust it you need a mutlimeter, and turn it until the volts match what is set to stock.

yeah, my car stalls, revs up and down, drops revs, blows smoke and sounds like a tractor! need new gearbox, timing belt, engine mounts and ECU. -Gear box would be my gues if ISC and TPS doesn't work.

Reset your TPS, clean out your ISC, and if that does not work it is prob your trans, or torque convert is shot and not disengaging at low rpm

Faulty vacuum lines can cause that too :) check all your vacuum lines, the culprit may be the PCV line at the top of the engine, the rubber can perish and crack particularly around the pcv end. Pull it off and check for cracks etc, it probably wouldn't hurt replacing it if its dodgy even if its not the cause. You won't be able to get a pcv line hose, just get a hose of the same inner size. If you take it in to an auto place (not sure about supercheap auto though) they'll be able to cut off a suitable hose of a suitable length for you. At the very least, it gives you the chance to clean the PCV valve! (they occasionally need cleaning to ensure proper operation). I'm not sure how many other vacuum lines there are on the TS, there is the power brake line but thats usually a lot heavier duty rubber and isn't exposed to as much heat.
