Ladies and Gentleman of the fellow 380 community your advice is needed! A family member has a Black 380 Series II SX that has a noise similar to a wheel bearing beginning to wear out.

It is not the sound of a metal on metal cutting like a bearing on its last legs, its more like the mechanical hum normally associated with a high km Ford BA - BF Taxi.

The sound increases with speed and is not proportional to engine revs. It is more noticeable on a closed throttle if coasting from 100 Km down to a stop.

The vehicle is currently at a Mitsubishi dealership and they have checked all wheel bearings and cannot find or replicate the sound on the hoist, but can out on the road.

This particular 380 has done 45,000 Km, my 380 has done 22,000 km and does not make the same sound. 4 x new tyres were put on it today but this did not help.

At this point I ask you all if anyone has had a similar experience with a 380 and if yes what was at fault?

If wheel bearings have been ruled out (even when they have warmed up) i would be looking at the CV joint, Drive Shaft(s), Flanges either end, Road Wheel and Tyres.

Thanks for that, today they put 4 x new tyres on it as they needed changing anyway.

I vote for tyres also. My Falkens ($370 ea) get very noisy at near end of life and it sounds as you describe. Drives me mad but I'm not about to replace them when they still have 10000km left in them.
